Quote More than ever, Lorde's writing is the best part of her music, if only because the music is a little disappointing. (Pitchfork) Quote Lorde is a deft songwriter. She knows what she's doing. The album lilts and meanders across 12 tracks, wholly avoiding the incendiary electronic percussion of past releases — a growing trend for the album's producer Jack Antonoff (Spin) Quote On Solar Power, Lorde's Poetic Lyrics Get Lost in Murky Music. Too often, unnecessary production flourishes interrupt Lorde's lyrical instincts. Solar Power's main criticism was that it lacks power and ambition compared to Melodrama. Lack of hooks were also noted. Obviously, there has been some reviews that were very critical of Lorde's lyrics in the album, but ultimately there was a lot more criticism towards the album's dud production than towards Lorde's writing. The problem was just Jack working with so many artists at that time and not being able to properly translate Lorde's vision. When you read interviews from the era, Lorde was always so passionate about the sound she wanted, but when you hear the album it just doesn't sound like what she had in mind. 1 2

vale9001 Posted April 22 Posted April 22 (edited) Please her first album wasn't that acclaimed. People liked her cause she was "against the mainstream course of music" and she was young and promising, but her album wasn't and this not like an acclaimed album or considered a stand out in pop music. She needed to find her specific road of course. With Antonoff she did and made her masterpiece and the album consacrated her. Lorde is a singer sonwriter and a producer. Solar power is an album made by two people ans she is the main artist, not Antonoff. Blaming all Antonoff for an album someone didn't like it because of lyrics, concept and unfinished melodies is something you can blame the main artist for. Your attitude against him is too much. He worked after that with Lana, Florence after that and they made good or great albums (the one with st.vincent is a solid album too) so the way you want to blame only him for solar powar it's kinda ridicolous. But this is the problem when you have this kind of target of music listeners, they are too obsessed with the "coolness". Sadly it end for all, the most you offer the most uncool you became whatever you makes. Even solar power is not that bad of an album if you ask me Edited April 22 by vale9001 1 1 6

Even solar power is not that bad of an album if you ask me Please why are you acting like Lorde fans also had a problem with Solar Power? We all loved Solar Power and it's a masterpiece just like how Pure Heroine and Melodrama was. We're just happy that she's working with many other different producers now, because it's fresh for her (and for the industry too, if you see the recent releases). Jack Antonoff is extremely saturated right now and he has been on a continuous uninspired downfall since Melodrama and NFR!. While all of these are happening, why would anyone want her to work with Jack Antonoff again? So she can release a same sounding Bleachers album like how Taylor and Lana has done several times recently? No. No one wants that and she's actually once again being innovative for being one of the first big Jack girlies to completely ditch him for a new era. Us being against Jack Antonoff is completely unrelated to Solar Power.

But lorde is a singer sonwriter makes music with just a collaborator, her impact on the work is big. It's not something go on and on and on on 1800 hands. Did you have a stroke or something? I'm worried 3

Not to mention she was constantly being complimented by very respected artists. And Pure Heroine is very much considered a stand out in pop music The consensus was that it was very impressive for a 16 year old to write an album like that. Considering how soften critics have become, if Lorde had debuted today, PH would've easily surpassed the +90 mark on Metacritic. 1 1

Cause the most panned thing of solar power were lorde lyrics and the whole concept. Plus you all should have more respect for your fave impact on the production side. It's too easy to say great thing for Melodrama and acting like this for solar power when Lorde herself said after melodrama was very overproduced and intense she wanted to give to the songs the unfinished shades on production (what some critics didn't like it). She decides, the producer executes. If you don't know how it works. Oh and Lorde is even a co producer. i can understand @Blue Rosecause its standard is beyoncè don't write the songs and "co produce" with different 17 co producers for song.
