This is above median of what I predicted which was between a 6 and 7. :bam:

seeing as how I'd rate the whole thing a 7 myself, I am not mad.

I'd love to say I'm surprised, but.... I'm not!

Pretty much what I expected. Main album deserved more but P4K are too indie/hipster to give her a higher rating.

This isn't 2004. They are owned by CN.

So wrong. Okay, they give Tortured Poets 6.6, but Anthology which is OBJECTIVELY miles better gets a lower score? That just doesn't make any sense

To be honest, I agree with the reviewer that Taylor is in desperate need of an editor. I love the build up in Who's Afraid of Little Old Me, but the lyrics are...clunky. She needs to stop mixing her metaphors so often.

And as someone who prefers the first half of the album, I'm not surprised that the anthology got a lower score. I can't even remember half the songs because they're so unremarkable.

The train company?

Very fair tbh, the album is too damn bloated for 31 TRACKS, even for an "double album" that's ridiculous…

The review is even generous in highlighting what the album manages to accomplish! TTPD is gonna be seen as one of her rare misses, that fine.. it's not even remotely bad as reputation, it could've been much worse :frown:

Not the anthology getting a lower score when it has the best songs.....

No but I do think their review is pretty fair even if I disagree.  And I think they could have talked more about the part 2 songs, they barely touched on them at all.

There are of course some publications/critics that 1. aren't afraid to tell the truth 2. doesnt let the bands come thru.

Ended those kiss-assing critics who are afraid to give her fair scores. This album is indeed a 6 at most, there's no way they would make us believe it's a 100 just bc it's by Taylor (looking at you Rolling Stone).

She needs a break, switch her sound for a bit, and most of all ditch Jack AntonOFF + Aaron. And also stop adding every single song she recorded for an album on the tracklist for the sake of numbers. It's not even a conceptual thing, she literally gives the album and then the scraps along with a text with beautiful words so the fans think they're getting some high level art piece :rip:

I don't know, I genuinely love getting to hear it all and would love to do so for all of my faves.  It definitely is a lot at once and maybe it would go over better for a lot of people if she spaced them out by at least a week or so.  Regardless, giving an album like this time to sink in is important (it's grown on me immensely after my first listen and I love it now).

Part of me does feel like though....this album is exactly what it was meant to be, for better or worse.  She wasn't aiming for a concise, pivotal, career cornerstone masterpiece here (especially since the era will be shortlived anyway, since she's on the same tour and has 2 more re-recorded albums to release in the near future) .  She just wrote a ton of music about a crazy time in her life and wanted it out there.
