but yeah this score should've definitely went to Midnights :rip: I literally don't get the hate but oh well!

Oh wow this fell more than I thought it would :rip:

Imo the score is fair…. this would be about a 61-65 without poptimism which seems accurate enough. A solid album that doesn't deserve "mixed reviews" compared to music overall. But it is noticeably one of Taylor's weaker efforts in her sea of quality albums, so I'm glad the score is reflecting that at least.

Well, at least this confirms she does not pay the critics.

Exactly....

And this confirms she isn't immune to critic either.

Anyway ttpd deserves 65.

The girls were fuming over this thread:

But a lot of the complaints in some of the more tepid reviews are.. basically the issue with the lack of musicality and melody this time around.

I genuinely mean it when saying she needs to put the notepad down and just go into the next album about the music. Do melody passes. Remember what it means to be a singer and music as a melodic art. It's valid to use lyricism as a form of healing but she's saying SO MUCH that it just blends into one another with the soundscape.

This is maybe her most blatant album where it's clear melodies and guitar chords got retrofitted to existing sonnets and previously written poems.

I like the album but I agree with you, when you hit play the whole thing kinda just bleeds into one soundscape, one kinda track. And not in a thoughtful way, of course you don't want a (sorry to shade my fave) Kim Petras Feed The Beast sized mess where it's just a whole bunch of sonically, lyrically and thematically different singles shoved together and called an "album." But you also don't absolute sameness. I know there are different types of songs on the album but when you take the whole 30 tracks of the anthology, it gets hard to distinguish them.

So many words, so little music. But I've been in emotional turmoil lately so alas, I'm happy to have this moody atmospheric sad girl album.

Poptimism is considered bad in ATRL of all places? :rip:

I didn't imply it was a bad thing. Just more evidence of it.

Pitchfork review was terribly written and boring, comparing it to the Paste review which was one of the best pieces of modern music journalism and articulated exactly what went wrong with the album/Taylor's current trajectory

Lover debuted with over 800k copies and was like 4X Platinum eligible by the time folklore came out :deadbanana: Quit talking out of your ass

Smh. Keep telling u that. Everyone knows her career took quite of a dip with Rep + Lover compared to her previous eras. No real hits from those 2 eras. So tell me why Lover only got a second life as of late when her career thrived again? Cruel Summer was a big hit due to her career went uphill again later on thanks to folklore + evermore + midnights.

Lover literally had 3-4M units at folklore's release :rip: If that is someone fading/on their way out, I hate to think what you think about albums that do that in 3-5 years, not 1 like Lover did :skull:

This wouldn't have happened if critics had reviewed Midnights as they should have.

I hope this is a final bye for Aaron and Jack, with their horrible productions.

Well it's pure law of physics. What goes up must go down. The sad thing is that she could've prevented this. She could've easily released Rep and then take a well deserved break.
