By race card do you mean acknowledging the unassailable history of racism in America, the world, and thus the music industry and buying public? By race card do you mean bringing up factual examples that outline just exactly how the Black musicians can face an uphill battle their white counterparts do not?

 

I mentioned how the ONLY women to score more than 1,000 weeks on the Billboard 200 are white women. Do you think this is just an interesting coincidence? Can you explain this in any other way but for there being some sort of racial bias in the buying public? And if it's not something to do with the public, does it maybe it has something to do with the industry? An industry that has awarded Taylor Swift AOTY more times than it has given the same award to Black women in its entire ~7-decade history? An award that in the last 15 years was given to white women double the amount of times it has been given to Black women in its entire ~7 decade history?

 

Members here try to poke holes and bring up successful black women like Beyoncé, like Rihanna, like SZA to explain how racism is a thing of the past, how it's a "race card" to mention it. However, none of those mentioned are coming close to Taylor's sales, thus we cannot say that Taylor does not benefit from a white privilege that her black peers simply do not. And while it's true most white women don't sell like Taylor does (though there is Adele, so she's not alone), the comparison is not between two white women, it's between a Black and a white woman, so when a thread asks why Beyoncé doesn't sell as much as Taylor, acknowledging the issue of race is certainly not out of the question.

 

It's akin to asking "Why aren't there as many female presidents in the world?" and when people say "misogyny" you reply "oh we're playing the gender card now!?". Unless you can prove that misogyny (or racism, in the example here) doesn't exist, you say it does not belong in at least part of the answer to the question.

 

There are many reasons Taylor sells so well. Most come back to the inoffensiveness of her music and image, and whiteness absolutely plays a role in that.

And you realize radio play is the main factor when it comes to billboard charts? Why couldn't fergie pull those stats off again? Let alone 7 more times? Beyoncé is rarely the best selling but always one of the best selling. She is always apart of the conversation because she has never fallen off unlike a majority of the people on that chart all whom started on the scene years after Beyonce already had multiple Grammy wins and multiple #1 songs.

 

Shania Twain has a record breaking three diamond albums in the 90s and she's rarely discussed because she fell off hard and had little to no cultural impact while being at the top. I know that's a hard concept for you people to grasp though so don't bother responding with further nonsense.

And where is Fergie now? Peaks mean nothing without consistency and longevity. She objectively IS one of the biggest female artists of all time. She's the 6th best selling female artist of ALL time with the second highest grossing female tour of ALL time for god sake

Beyoncé pushes the envelope and her talent is critically acclaimed by critics and peers. McDonald's sells more burgers but doesn't mean they are "great".
