UnusualBoy Posted April 15 Posted April 15 She sounds good with that sound but the thing is that the songs are starting to sound very alike or they don't stand out from each other so maybe she could stick to that genre but sparkle with colors or make it harder.
wigglytuffer Posted April 15 Posted April 15 I remember when Deja Vu was going viral on Tiktok and this remix went viral with it: I'd love her to explore the lighter-side of drum and bass. Kinda like a bedroom-pop version of liquid dnb. Her voice lends very well to this kinda dance beat, I'm just not sure how commercially viable it is. It definitely got played at some big festivals in the UK and the crowd were hype too, and there's all love on Tiktok for it
JoJo Posted April 15 Posted April 15 (edited) She's not going to abandon pop rock now that all these female rock legends are praising her. I'd also hate for her to change her entire creative direction just because pop rock isn't trending right now. I suspect for OR3 that we'll get less songs like Obsessed and BoaHSG and more songs like LIE and So American since they're the last songs she recorded for the standard and deluxe editions of GUTS. She could also just make a folk pop album since that's what's popular right now (Noah Kahan) and some of the new deluxe songs are folk pop. I think a new wave album or a folk pop album would be much more natural growth for Olivia than OR3 being a synth pop album, for example. Edited April 15 by JoJo
byzantium Posted April 15 Posted April 15 I think any artist should be constantly challenging themselves and exploring new sounds. This doesn't mean I think she should do a complete 180, but she should be working on how she can transform her music differently. I kind of see her exploring more of a bluegrass - dance pop sound like Kacey's Golden Hour. I think it would suit Olivia really well and be a natural progression.
NoOneDiesFromLove Posted April 15 Posted April 15 Vampire has literally the same structure that Drivers License does… Guts artwork has the same colors that Sour does… I really don't think this schtick will survive OR3… If she wants to cement herself as a mpg and her third album to succeed she needs to reinvent herself a la Taylor Swift
barbiegrande Posted April 15 Posted April 15 1 hour ago, Dante Silva said: Olivia is now the sound and face of commercial, modern U.S. rock. She needs to work with other songwriters who have pedigree in the Rock/ Pop genre. Gossip suggests Billie Joe Armstrong (from Green Day) will be a likely co-writer/ contributor to her third album. Given her established sound it now makes sense for her to be produced by Rob Cavallo in the near future also. Other names her label need to hook her up with include Rick Rubin and Rick Nowels. She's not going to turn into Selena Gomez anytime soon and anyone who thinks the answer to Olivia's problem is pivoting towards the sound of Hollywood records circa 2009 is misguided. Also, it would be a total misfire for Olivia to work with Jack Antonoff as we have now entered an era where his shortcomings as a producer are coming to light and slowly being exposed. Nobody associates Olivia Rodrigo with rock 1 1
Fitzswiftie Posted April 15 Posted April 15 Xenophomania-esque pop rock, a glossier version of her current sound
aesthetic bih Posted April 15 Posted April 15 Respect for Olivia for exploring and making the music she ACTUALLY likes, but the constant pop rock from her is starting to become overwhelming and predictable. Idk how else she can make a genre way past its peak interesting. I think she needs to switch the genre up a bit next era.
Bussea Posted April 15 Posted April 15 Nah pop/rock eats. she just needs to use different producers and experiment a little more 2

RoseBud Posted April 15 Posted April 15 I am happy with whatever she does but please keep feeding us. That two year drought hanging on only 11 songs was brutal ! 2
Raphy23 Posted April 15 Posted April 15 Idk Obsessed and So American are her best songs yet! I'd be upset if she dropped this sound now when she just keeps getting better and better.

Dula Peep Posted April 15 Posted April 15 GUTS >>> SOUR. 2 hours ago, Solaria said: Honestly if she's smart she would lean into folk music or something more singer-songwriterish with a lush, warm, laidback sound. The GP loved the ballads from Sour and after Noah Kahan's success she might be able to pull that off and smash I feel like she's going to do to this, we got the sneak peak with most of the bonus tracks from GUTS (Spilled)

She's actually carved out a musical identity and fanbase for herself, it's also giving her credibility with older audiences. No need to "reinvent" just evolve
sourprint Posted April 15 Posted April 15 i was writing a long wall of text but now im gonna keep it cute, ditch the purple color for the next album and four digits album titles, use softer colors instead and songs reminiscent of sour. theme could be being in love (her lover era), but also have some gut wrenching ballads talking about bad friendships, and some songs that shade those who did her wrong in the past cuz why not? for additional drama and pr as for styling: clean girl aesthetic makeup and miumiu kind of style i dont like the route shes going as i dont like rock music n to me shes being too mature so i cant relate! i miss my old liv ijbol

At this point Olivia is following a similar pattern, which is good for her fans but unremarkable for the gp. At least Taylor wasn't doing the same color palettes for her albums, which people could at least tell apart. There's some people who think Guts was a deluxe/extension of Sour.
Bloodflowers. Posted April 15 Posted April 15 These were teen rock songs, now that she is adult, her rock music should sound like Sheryl Crow, The Cranberries and No Doubt
hallucinate Posted April 15 Posted April 15 abandon hopefully pop-rock trend seems to be over for the most part and personally i never cared for it in the first place
