Law is law and it's negligent to just say "for US audiences" on a globally available post Well you could argue that throws into question the internet itself. Is it realistic to expect every single site to geoblock stuff for each country? At what point do country specific laws about the internet become irrelevant when you're dealing with a global network of communication whose whole point is to be globally accessible? 3

That is how the internet works already! That is why you only see GDPR pop-ups when you are in the EU. Or why you aren't able to access certain sites from different countries. That is why you need to use a VPN to pretend you are in other countries to access certain streaming sites. That is why you can only download apps from your home country's app store. That is also why on Instagram you don't see ads for US services, as ads are geofenced. That is how the internet works. She (and other celebs) usually aren't advertising something that is heavily regulated. If she were to advertise clothing, it wouldn't matter. However, she's advertising a drug. In the EU we do not get advertised medication. 2 3

The long term implications of this drug aren't known, yet in the short term it has caused quite a few unpleasant side effects. Always consult your doctor before taking any medication. Nureological intervening drugs for migraine are few and far between and I appreciate the desperation it can cause, however if anyone here is experiencing regular migraine I recommend keeping a "headache diary". If the frequency of your migraine meets criteria then you may be eligible for monthly Ajovy injections, which on the face of the info regarding Nurtec, is probably a much more viable option. Not the advertising competing medicine. Yall have truly lost the plot 1

RideOrDie Posted April 11 Posted April 11 investigated by the EU while others can't even sell out shows there
Navyofbadgals Posted April 11 Posted April 11 Okay but genuinely, good. I hope it puts her away from doing those ads

At what point do country specific laws about the internet become irrelevant when you're dealing with a global network of communication whose whole point is to be globally accessible? It's already quite normal that things are geoblocked on the internet. For example in Canada Meta already blocks certain news sources, it says something like "due to legislation, users in Canada cannot view this content". In Europe, we get those GDPR pop ups on every website we visit. Also, the US and New Zealand are the only countries that allow direct-to-consumer advertising for prescription drugs. So she should have known better to not post it on a globally accessible social media platform, if it's illegal in almost every country. 1
