bowdown Posted April 6 Posted April 6 Well? Will Icon Taylor outdo herself and sell more in the first week with Tortured Poets Department that she did with Midnights?

Cruel Summer Posted April 6 Posted April 6 I think that it's possible, but it's still a tall order. While she has the benefit of coming off of the immense first half of the Eras tour, the hype around Midnights was truly insane. When there's basically nobody around who can do half of what Midnights did in its first week, tying it is surely not an easy feat even for Taylor. 1989 TV managed to do even better, but I think that was more tangibly in the center of the peak of Eras Tour hype and it was, obviously, her biggest album getting its second life at the perfect moment, so that was a special case. While I don't really believe in overexposure as a concept, we also have to consider how some fans seemed upset about the variants having separate bonus tracks, and how the internet at large tried weirdly hard to seize on some frankly ridiculous **** on the night of the Grammys - there's at least a tiny bit of exhaustion in the market. Given all that and the relative silence she and her team have had since the announcement, I wouldn't be too shocked or disappointed if TTPD "only" debuted over a million but didn't crack the Midnights/1989 TV barrier. 8
Brooklyn Baby Posted April 6 Posted April 6 Yes she will, at least for first week sales. 1989 TV outsold MID in first week sales and was her biggest opening week ever. It's a no brainer
Johnny Jacobs Posted April 6 Posted April 6 Idk y i have a feeling it will sell well but less. We'll see

NoOneDiesFromLove Posted April 6 Posted April 6 Yes if she tweets again like she did today Each tweet = 1M additional sales
Theluckyone Posted April 6 Posted April 6 Yes I think she'll have no issue in clearing midnights' debut numbers. For overall consumption it will be tough as midnights has truly immense longevity, but it'll depend on how the singles from TTPD fare.
Orsay Posted April 6 Posted April 6 Eras tour happened in between, so I expect she will pass it by a decent margin. I've seen some swifties talking about 2M though and I don't know about that
PoisonedIvy Posted April 6 Posted April 6 She'll be lucky to clear 750K, she has very little hype right now. 2
Taylor fanboy Posted April 6 Posted April 6 PTSD will be lucky to surpass Taylor's best album REPUTATION 4
CécredSpaces Posted April 6 Posted April 6 (edited) Of course. It would be a surprise if it doesn't. Edited April 6 by CécredSpaces

EtherealCat Posted April 6 Posted April 6 no shes over nobody has even been to an eras tour show since march 1
DevilsRollTheDice Posted April 6 Posted April 6 First week? Probably. Long term? Depends on the genre and the tea
cuteboyzay Posted April 6 Posted April 6 (edited) Hmmmm, given the hype from the Era's tour I can see her equaling or doing a LITTLE bit more than Midnights. Like 1989 (TV). But longevity wise I feel she doesn't have anything crazy planned for this era. I think she's just releasing the album just because. With Midnights you could TELL she had a clear intention and drive to make it huge. With this new album, I'm not so sure. Edited April 6 by cuteboyzay

CaptainMusic Posted April 6 Posted April 6 (edited) If 1989 TV could sell more then obviously. Based on her global rise since Midnights. I think she can do around: US - 2M Canada - 150k UK - 250k Germany - 100k Australia - 80k France - 40-50k It probably won't outsell Midnights in total though. Edited April 6 by CaptainMusic 1
