Solaria Posted April 4 Posted April 4 Ever since we had the shift from larger than life pop to autobiographical relatable pop there's really been few pop stars who were truly innovative or completely changed the music landscape. Or tried on new genres and sounds. The last one I can think of is Billie. Which popstar today still tries to innovate? 2 1
AxelFox Posted April 4 Posted April 4 I feel like music has branched out so much over the past 50 years that it's kinda hard to go to entirely new places sound wise. At least until a huge lap in technology occurs again. So the environment is not really as favorable for true innovation anymore. Most of what is coming out today is an iteration of what has already been done. Some are quite creative in doing so and bring a new point of reference to already established styles, while others not as much. 4

Virgos Groove Posted April 4 Posted April 4 (edited) Beyoncé is still pushing herself 28 years into her career when she could've been rehashing CIL/SL and doing greatest hits tours. That's genuinely commendable. Edited April 4 by Virgos Groove 15 2

Erreur2 La Nature Posted April 4 Posted April 4 I genuinely feel like there isn't anyone, males and females, that is groundbreaking these days. There's no surprise or shock value anymore, we've seen it all and it often comes as desperate or predictable when someone tries to get some spotlight. Nowadays most artists do their thing. They record an album and completely disappear because streaming alone is able to carry them so there's no efforts anymore. 4
Apostolis Posted April 4 Posted April 4 currently? Beyonce has been doing a LOT and deserves her flowers 10 4
satellites.™ Posted April 4 Posted April 4 Bey is doing it for the last 2 generations and the ones ahead of us, I truly think she will be revered so much more in 20 years, which sounds crazy. Imagine finding out about theee Beyonce when she's in her 50s, you have so much to go through and find about her career and music. Someone will get to see her progression from 4 to Self-Titled and everything after. She's been around so long we have a FULL character arc about her. 17 1 5
KatyPrismSpirit Posted April 4 Posted April 4 if we talk true innovation, it's madonna and donna summer. hands down the blueprints of all female artists today. 7
Mornings Posted April 4 Posted April 4 The only one really shifting pop culture sonically and visually is doja. She's really not following anyone in the current music scene. Beyonce is making a country album that sounds just like all her other albums with some banjo in the background. 4 6 1 1 13
.Odyssey. Posted April 4 Posted April 4 Madonna and Beyonce. Beyonce for the aforementioned reasons. Madonna because she still is redefining what a pop show is, and her latest tour is yet another interesting approach to a live concert that she hasn't tried before. 5

Out of curiosity, can you draw the parallels between the songs on Cowboy Carter which songs in the rest of her discography you think they sound like? 1

Im not a huge Beyonce fan so I can't give you specifics but I can tell you where the songs could fit on other albums. think spaghetti and sweet honey buckin could have fit on the carters nicely. oh Louisiana sounds like hold up they don't love you like I love you. lol I guess that's lemonade. girl I don't have an hour to dissect the album you're not going to agree with me anyway. but her vocal layering & delivery , the production gloss, it's all the same with different instruments. And it's good! I like Beyonce and she does a ton of things no one else can do. but doja really switches up everything so I'm going with her 1 1
