Levitating didn't really smash during its initial run. I mean it went Top 10 for a cute 3 or 4 weeks then exited. Its redeeming moment was when she ******* ATE during the Grammys. That Grammy performance was then considered rare to be influencing the charts but it did. It would truly need a miracle for this to smash but at least some of us are loving the song, including me. 1

They released Houdini in the end of November, when all the Christmas songs were dominating the charts. If they had released it in late January or early February, I think it could've gone #1 in the UK, top 10 in the USA and became a proper hit for her, specially with the Grammy and BRIT performances as promo. Training Season (with a better video) could've come out at the time Illusion did and it would've been - at least - a moderate hit as a follow-up to Houdini. But anyways, coulda woulda shoulda... 1

Agree. Think they got fixated on replicating the FN roll out, but didn't change tack when DTN got big and Barbie exploded. Really DTN and the whole awards season hoopla sucked the oxygen till February.

I think they were contractually obliged to release video where she will wear Puma before Xmas, as part of campaign and brand endorsement, so thats why they shot last minute Houdini video instead of wait and release TS as first single as planned. Maybe they thought at that time, they will be bale to use the original TS video later Edited April 22 by mike_int
Hex Posted April 22 Posted April 22 I was so excited for this project based on her inspirations (Massive Attack and Primal Scream, two of my favorite acts of all time) but all I'm getting is FN part 2. Hoping her team just decided to put out the most safe stuff first because everything out so far sounds like territory she's already covered better.

Guess it will all emerge in the future.

Love Again, Physical, Electricity are amazing 1

OK was an actual hit worldwide at that point, and these singles are making a fraction of the impact anywhere. it's not the US audience's bad taste that's a problem now lol

It's not like she's going through a Katy Perry - Witness situation. I think she can recover from this and I think the album is going to sell well. If push comes to shove, she can always remix a song from the album and call a famous rapper to improve streams like she did with Levitating.

I do believe there's still a New Rules or Levitating, which were released as the 7th (!!!) and 5th singles respectively.
