Teenage Dream's score alone is shocking. If the same album was released today by someone currently popular it'd end up at 90. Historically, there's been a bias against pop music, often dismissed as superficial and lacking in depth or genuine artistry. This viewpoint has led to an undervaluing of pop artists and their work, Katy included. However, the tide has turned in recent years. The critical landscape has shifted, and there's now a greater appreciation for the complexity and value of pop music. This change is evident when comparing reviews of pop albums from today with those from the early 2010s. It's not to say that Katy's work would suddenly receive universal acclaim or extremely high ratings if released in today's more accepting climate. But, I do believe that albums like 'Teenage Dream' and 'Prism' would receive much higher scores and be seen in a more positive light if they were to debut in the current era.
