Storm653 Posted February 22 Posted February 22 (edited) Also, Madonna getting hits in her late 40's and 50's without streaming at her disposal should be taken into account. Imagine if Spotify and Tik Tok existed when COADF or even Hard Candy dropped. Hung Up and 4 Minutes will be debuting at number 1 right off the bat and the albums would probably be charting for a much longer time just off the strength of those singles. spiritboy Posted February 22 Posted February 22 Madonna having a hit song and touring at 65 so that younger girls will have it easier. As someone said better, you can’t surpass a legend but you can become one. And Beyonce will be one of the first women of her gen to be a legend. 1
The7thStranger Posted February 22 Posted February 22 It was bad enough when Taylor fans did this. Just stop.

UnusualBoy Posted February 22 Posted February 22 Cher and Tina maybe because their success was more inconsistent but no Madonna. Not saying she won't reach her but she hasn't gotten there yet.

Mariah’s new stuff is not bringing in numbers nowadays at all and she's mostly relying on her older catalog. Which is not a bad thing, she has a legendary catalog. But context is important because what Beyonce is accomplishing is different.

There are artists who do not even need "new" music to smash. Imagine having a legendary catalogue that can do that. Mariah's last single is called Yes, and? Remix and came out 6 days ago. Mariah's last studio album was Caution which came out in 2018. <3 (Don't hate just because your remark was factually wrong).

I never said Mariah slayed with new music. But having the #1 song in the world for a month or 5 weeks every single year, and having a top 10 globally best selling album every Q4 is doesn't scream flop to me. Relying in ones catalogue is a good thing.

So will Beyonce, even more I’m guessing But yeah in my little medonster eyes she will never reach M’s greatness and creativity, she’s the blueprint
PrettyHurts Posted February 22 Posted February 22 "surpassed" is unnecessary but yes she is in their league now in terms of longevity. she is a cultural fixture that has remained current 20+ years after debuting and will continue to do so. as long as she continues managing her releases well, she can achieve commercial success into her 50s and beyond
Cameltoe Chariot Posted February 22 Posted February 22 What a brain dead topic We can celebrate Beyonce without minimizing the earth-moving efforts of Madonna
Shinning Posted February 22 Posted February 22 8 hours ago, Mordecai said: ^ There's no Beyonce longevity without Madonna, Cher or Tina, it was much harder for female artists in the 70s/80s to thrive much less have longevity and do so at an older age This is why in my mind the endless Madonna/Taylor comparisons are meritless If it's so much easier for older women to thrive nowadays then why are there literally no other female artist in her 40s thriving like Bey?
John Slayne Posted February 22 Posted February 22 no, you're setting Bey up. she's still a massive star of course

Navyboy20 Posted February 22 Posted February 22 Let's wait until the end of Act 3 to visit this conversation but the fact that she's never had a flop era at the age of 42 is definitely promising.

Mandalay Posted February 23 Posted February 23 Enjoy 'Texas' y'all. Beyonce is probably the coolest pop star in a scandal-free way. I don't see her being affected by ageism in her 50s, to the extent the likes of Madonna had. However, Madonna in her prime was much more successful than Beyonce ever was. We also have to take that into consideration, and not just 'longevity'.
