Birthday followed the biggest hit of her career and barely made top 20 before dropping quickly. It's why peaks alone don't tell the whole story. Prism got by on two HUGE, and I mean HUGE hits but the cracks on her career started to show.

Both Katy & Xtina are iconic. Both have made a huge impact in pop music/culture. You can’t discuss pop music without bringing up Stripped & Teenage Dream! Legendary eras.

Xtina was HUGE before the digital era... while Katy was huge during it... for sure the latter is better positioned in people's minds.

 

Let's not confuse popularity with success... Xtina's achievements, accolades, and critical acclaim speak for her.

The numbers skew towards Katy due to streaming. But people in this thread downplaying Xtina are ridiculous when:

 

1. Back to Basics was not a flop, nor was it an underperformance

2. Xtina bagged multiple multiplatinum collabs after she flopped with Bionic, Katy has not and it's been 8 years since Witness

3. Xtina has still sold FAR more albums

4. Christina Aguilera was one of the most searched celebrities through the entire 2000s decade

5. Their CSPC units are ~8M apart (due to streams) yet people in here claiming "KaTy bY FaR!!11"

 

The cherry on top is that Katy herself had this to say about Xtina:

Imagine thinking Xtina isn't an icon, that's just trolling. Plus, her talent has longevity and will continue to get her lots of acclaim and respect as this Katy video shows
