Dua is only on her third album and is carving out a sound for herself. Taylor Swift last singles Me You Need to calma down Lover Cardigan Willow Anti Hero Cruel Summer Karma Oh It's very strange gp doesn't have a discourse about these genre shifting songs being all the same but they have It about don't start now, dance the night and Houdini. Shocking! 1
dawnettakins Posted February 19 Posted February 19 (edited) I was just thinking this how all her big singles either lowkey sound the same or are about the same topic, after listening to Training Season for the first time (finally). Mind of a mastermind tbh!! It's the delivery and her vocals for one. She doesn't really change it up at all. And the sound itself is becoming very dated already. It was cute with DTN, but now seems like she can't evolve or change her sound up at all. I guess that Barbie song that became a hit for her too really made her think she can keep doing that same sound for a surefire hit. Edited February 19 by dawnettakins
Cleanromantic Posted February 19 Posted February 19 Both songs are good but they do sound Disco influenced and from FN. Gays losing their minds to say they're a new genre because they only like vapid, generic music are so funny to see. I also agree with her voice and especially her lyrics sounding generic . 1 2
Pillz Posted February 19 Posted February 19 Love the song, but do agree she needs to mix it up, either lyrically or sonically. It's not evolution if she's dying her hair red and making the same music. 1

She only changed her hair color. They're not identical but you can tell there wasn't any innovation like it was on her Debut > FN. She only developed the sound she already had and stayed on her lane. On top of that, the visuals aren't that exciting and she's not bringing anything new to the table like she did back in 2019-20. 3 hours ago, Ken Lee said: People in here acting like the 2 new songs are an avant-garde extreme departure with deeply psychedelic moments are delusional; the psychedelia influences are somewhat subtle. It's really the same case for disco on Future Nostalgia. I don't know why we're pretending it's some top-to-bottom disco record These. Like..nobody is even saying that the songs are bad ..
ReachOut Posted February 19 Posted February 19 We have Taylor (TV songs are basically the same song ) and Lana releasing the same song all over. Training Season and Houdini doesn't sound alike, Houdini it's far from FN sound even if it's dance music. 1

halcyonday Posted February 19 Posted February 19 one thing that sounds the same for sure is the vocals. she's no vocalist, has no range and almost always stays in the same key. but at least she gives the disco bops

And I agree she doesn’t have much range despite having a wonderful tone. But the influences kinda sound the same, and I’ve been pretty vocals in saying this. I did think Houdini is a step in the right direction because despite it being a dance-pop song, personally it felt like a change for Dua. Then TS kinda sounds like BMH so it’s like she’s retreating. I hope she offers a ballad or midtempo next. Maybe it could be her HTE this era.

We are talking about genres hunty. There are jazz, folk, bossa nova, electro-pop, etc songs on that list while the same can't be said for miss Dua.

Not sure if you really listened to the songs but Oxytocin and Bad Guy are not ballads. You can’t also be serious that WTPO sounds the same as Your Power or Billie Bossa Nova or Happier than Ever. They are ballads/midtempos but with different structure and style compared to Dua’s discography post-debut.
WeFoundWill Posted February 19 Posted February 19 mind you Houdini, TS and DTN sound NOTHING alike. god I HATE f*ggots on the internet.

Saying Dua's music is all the same because it's different tempo is not fair. Her debut had electro-pop and r&b influences, Future Nostalgia had nu-disco, house and funk music influences and her new era has psychedelic influences. Edited February 19 by Blank Space
Erreur2 La Nature Posted February 19 Posted February 19 This is so stupid. None of her songs sound identical and this is something that is told about every single popgirl
unino Posted February 19 Posted February 19 it means that she's having her own sound. people are familiar with her voice now
Gesi Posted February 19 Posted February 19 Her songs are similar because she has a distinguish deep voice?! Whatever
