As others have said, it's music snobs. Rock fans hate it when bands that are "supposed to be rock" aren't "rock enough". Anything slightly poppy or mainstream and they'll trash them. Metal fans do the same thing. Ghost ventured away from their classic metal sound, got a TikTok hit, and now they're considered uncool in the metal community.

I don't know in the US but in my country they're still very popular and generally almost everybody likes them
