The members are particular ugly and Coldplay is too popular to not be cringy. It gives "please just try listening to anything else first" vibes

I think because the consensus is that they “sold out” and quality has been going continuously downhill since Viva La Vida. They still make some bops though if you ask me but the albums aren’t what they used to be

I’m sorry but I’ll never feel embarrassed to enjoy listening to a band with songs like Trouble, Green Eyes, Warning Sign, What If, Talk, The Hardest Part, Church and Champion of the World in their discography.

Some people like to go against the grain and make it their entire personality to dislike things that are popular. Once you reach a certain level of fame, it becomes ‘cool’ to be hated on. The same thing is now happening with Taylor Swift. My two nephews said the other day that they both hate her and I asked why and they couldn’t give me an actual reason why. They just kept saying “we just do” - and that’ll be because TikTok is constantly pushing a narrative about her.

A girl at my work hates Coldplay because she said all of their songs sound the same, which just isn’t correct. I don’t know how you could say that Trouble and Hymn for the Weekend sound the same. I think some people hear two/three songs from the same album and assume their entire discography is that way.

honestly their music is not my thing but I saw an interview where their frontman was being a genuine ally and I had to stan :clap3:

they never pull out good music since first four albums which are huge enough to carry them as stadium band (performing almost the same every concert, predictable firework color visual, chris overreacting, etc.) most of them are dated and cheesy which is probably the reason to stay away from UK Maroon 5.

I would actually say right now is the best time to stan Coldplay, the attitude towards them changed a lot since the tour started. Here in Brazil, for instance, people went from calling the band money laudery because they were shocked with the demand to defending them in the Twitter replies. As a fan, seeing this in real time was insane :dies:

No, no absolutely not.

As opposed to when Coldplay was considered lame, the GP now loves Coldplay. I would say in today's generation, they get more respected than U2 (yeah I know it sounds CRAZY but it's kinda true.) I only see only positive comments about Coldplay. Every comment section on reels and tiktoks of U2's Sphere performance is filled fo comments like "Coldplay should perform here" "what are they doing" etc.

I don't know how did it happen since their music gets worse and worse. Their tour def did some wonders.

Their music is considered too mellow/corny for some and also they have been very incosistent in terms of music quality. However, I feel like their early albums are very well regarded in music spaces

At the beginning the critics  always said that the problem was Chris's fake deep lyrics. But by the time VLV was released people started appreciating their first albums more.

Then they became Maroon 5 part two and the respect went downhill

Unrelated but I just wanted to point out that the whole iTunes controversy really did a number on U2's image. It is always brought up in hit tweets about them

Which is really stupid, in my opinion.

They gave everyone an album completely free. If said person didn't want to listen to it, then they didn't have to listen to. There was no need to make a big stink about them doing what was ultimately a pretty harmless thing NKJLMK

I thought it was because people say they’re a rip-off Radiohead (I don’t hear it though). I’ve seen people say, too, that Keane is worse because they’re a rip-off of Coldplay (i.e., a rip-off of a rip-off), but, truth be told, I like Keane the best out of the three :clown:

They are my favorite band ever and the best concert that I've been to. So no, it's not embarrassing at all.

it isn't

I guess they used to be pretty okay with their earlier albums (at least as far as inoffensive background music goes), but by now their stuff is just basic and kinda cringe. Then again, I don't think I was ever part of their target audience, because personally if I wanna hear a man singing rock(-ish) music, I'll just put on Nirvana, Green Day or Lenny Kravitz.

The problem was that no one could delete the album from their phones.:ahh:

Im aging myself, but didnt the whole coldplay hate start from some homophobic joke in a movie, and just steamrolled from there.

I dont remember what movie, but there was like a line that stated it was gay to like coldplay.

Kids at school would say it all the time :rip:

They suffer almost the same phenomenon as U2, they are “to popular”, so people think it’s cool to hate on them.

And to add to that, both bands were never seen as “rock enough” to gain that respect, although they still were encased in a way by that genre. Then as they’ve released more mainstream/generic music, they are hated even more. Nickelback sort of falls into that territory as well.
