Wicked Posted February 14 Posted February 14 1 hour ago, swissman said: A parody is making fun of something though, which it is not. And also, she's making country music, should she not have country themes as well? The #1 "Hot Country Song" in America (which has been there for 20 weeks) begins by talking about drinking whiskey, continues talking about driving in a '88 Ford, hanging out in someone's basement and going to the bar. But when Beyoncé does it...it's parody and cliché. When others do it...and are on top of the respective chart for 20 weeks...no problem? Most Country enthusiasts + the industry HATE Morgan Wallen. There's a reason he has been completely shut out at the Grammys in the Country categories and has only won one CMA/ACM. Last Night might be a smash but it's not well regarded by his genre. He's a thorn in their sides. Neither song are parodies though, THE is kinda corny but Morgan is cornier lmfao 1

I respect her right to experiment, but this could be a mixtape or little EP, not a whole fkn era. the ai version of miley cyrus singing both sound substantially better lol 2 1 1 2
Relampago. Posted February 14 Posted February 14 Beyonce is bigger than country radio anyways Their thinly veiled racism and radio politics be damned. Their entire platform is dying while Bey is still here.
Joyride Posted February 14 Posted February 14 the mental acrobatics these DJs are doing to avoid touching this they think they're slick but their racism is very thinly desguised
J Legend X Posted February 14 Posted February 14 but why are we surprised ?... they don't even play Kacey Musgraves who's done country her entire career lol... 1

This is about Beyonce You should take that up with the literal first poster in this thread, who decided to bring her up: 7 hours ago, Shinning said: The racism ch I bet they play Taylor Swift's pop songs though Country radio is known to be trash. 3
Bad_vocal_technique Posted February 14 Posted February 14 May be they question the authenticity of this project considering this is not the genre she’s known for?
Polgg48 Posted February 14 Posted February 14 both mimic old town road at best and iirc country radio didnt play that either, billy ray cyrus ha moment is imminent
unclefloprry Posted February 14 Posted February 14 $$$$$$$$$$ C*lumbia is not doing what they do best $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ Im surprised
Maroonx Posted February 14 Posted February 14 idk why people are acting so shocked with this... Most country radio stations won't even play The Chicks, and they are country
Velvet Night Posted February 14 Posted February 14 Country music is full of racism, so not surprised. Beyoncé is a legend, so it’s their loss not hers.
Squall Posted February 14 Posted February 14 She isn’t known as a country artist so I am not surprised. They haven’t been supporting Taylor’s country songs since 1989

Exactly, it’s exactly what I think. As I said, they refuse to play Taylor since she has switched to pop music. 1
Bey'Knight Posted February 14 Posted February 14 7 hours ago, swissman said: It's funny how so many apparent fans of country music (a genre often defined by storytelling) can claim this song is a parody through keywords in the lyrics but are not expressing the least bit of comprehension as to what she's actually saying with the lyrics. It's clearly about Beyoncé having left Texas but bringing along her Texan values. The laundry list of allusions she makes to "country music" is more so a way she's sharing her upbringing with her romantic partner. As the song goes. "This ain't no Texas"... she's not in Texas and that's why she's telling her love interest to put his cards down (ie. open up to her) and thus the story unfolds of them travelling around and just having fun. I love you sis but you give folks’ intelligence too much credit. These people here revel in their ignorance. 1
toxicgenie Posted February 14 Posted February 14 (edited) I don't follow radio anymore, but are pop or other stations playing her new songs? Edited February 14 by toxicgenie
Chemist Posted February 14 Posted February 14 They don't even play Zach Bryan or Kacey Musgraves which are (mostly) country artists. they will NEVER play beyonce
Phaunzie Posted February 14 Posted February 14 Too bad, soo sad. Does she need a radio station to play her 'country' song to an audience that never liked her? No.
Phaunzie Posted February 14 Posted February 14 11 hours ago, Mezik said: Beyoncé is also a women over 40. Country radio usually restricts female play to women under 35. Sis, I hate country, and even I know that is a lie. Women over 35 are not that restricted in that genre, especially compared to pop, rock and rnb. Reba, Dolly, Allison Kraus and others are still making rounds. Not the girls saying that Beyonce is reclaiming country, as though black country artists haven't been doing their thing since forever. The Pointer Sisters need their flowers.
Jay07 Posted February 14 Posted February 14 (edited) 16 hours ago, Zefierce said: Agreed. She's entering a space referencing every country cliche she can think of - doing the hoedown, drinking whiskey, going to a dive bar. It feels like something that belongs on SNL skit more than anything, yet people are expected to respect it. Every mainstream country song I've heard references trucks, alcohol and girls and Beyonce is doing a parody? Stop patronizing Black artists, Swiftie. Edited February 14 by Jay07 1
