Pop Fan Posted February 9 Posted February 9 No, she's not overrated. She deserves her success. After 1989's success it was obvious that she has the potential to be one of the GOATs. But then Kimye happened, I thought she was never gonna fully recover after thay, reputation and Lover eras were kinda undereated in my opinion. People and the general public adore her music, she just needed some new narrative and hype and the rerecordings were the best thing that happened to her career. Without rerecords we'd never be where we are right now 1

Take everything away and Beyoncé still has her consistent singing/vocal and performing abilities at base level but for Taylor she has her songwriting which can be extremely inconsistent depending on who she collabs with. ? Without beys team making her albums for her she’d be a glorified cruise ship performer and Taylor’s writing isn’t inconsistent, she literally has three different writing pens depending on what kind of song she’s wanting to make 2 4 1 5

I don't know a single person in real life who is obsessed with this woman or who has even attended an Eras concert but I don't hang around too many white people to begin with. Good for you i guesa

Pop Fan Posted February 9 Posted February 9 Beyonce is kinda overrated cuz her status don't match her popularity or demand. The truth is that Beyonce's success and numbers were never really that impressive. Taylor's been way bigger than her since Fearless won AOTY. She has literally never dominated the music scene like Adele and Taylor did. Taylor's accolades and praise match her impact and demand. You can't say the same for Beyonce. 3 1 6
Stankonia Posted February 9 Posted February 9 I don't know a more overrated singer. It baffles me that so many people are obsessed with such a mid artist. She can't sing, she can't perform, her aesthetic and style are boring, the music is mediocre and as much as her fans try to sell her as the next coming of Joni mitchell I find her lyrics juvenile and cringe. To me her enormous popularity is the single biggest mystery of the music industry and I don't think I'll ever begin to understand her appeal. 2 7 2

I would be baffled if she wasn't this successful. That just shows us that people have different taste but love it or hate it, most of the general public loves Taylor so...

This just shows that she's too successful and that the echo chamber called ATRL is threatened by her. Shes gonna lay low until her new album and everyone will tune in and she'll be praised again. This is not the first time this has happened 3 3

Yeah her success doesn’t bother me as much as the gaslighting the media/her fans putting her next to songwriting legends eons more talented and interesting than her. 5

Zefierce Posted February 10 Posted February 10 If she's overrated, why do all these fan bases wish their fav was more like her?

Shimenawa Posted February 10 Posted February 10 Yes, Midnights is proof of that. If any other pop girl released that album, it wouldn't have had this success or became AOTY
Mordecai Posted February 10 Posted February 10 (edited) Yes. If we look at the greatest selling artists of all time - The Beatles, Elvis, MJ, Madonna - they are not just musicians. They have pushed boundaries artistically, are cultural phenomena and have made significant contributions to pop culture and society at large. Taylor has just started to have that cultural impact, but all of that is tied to her success. Apart from her relationship, all of Taylor's media attention focuses on her success - how big her tour is or how much music she's selling. Take away that success and what is left? What is Taylor going to be remembered for 15-20 years from now that has nothing to do with success? (And no, lyrics is not the answer). MJ has breaking the colour barrier, the moonwalk, the Thriller video, Hee Hee, the list goes on. Madonna has the wedding dress and hand gloves, the Like a Prayer music video, constant reinventions and breaking the glass ceiling for women in music. She is successful because she doesn't do any of these things. She's not pushing boundaries, she's not causing controversy so there's nothing that makes people uncomfortable or offended, so people don't mind her sticking around. And that's okay! But when compared to the level of success she has, she is horribly, horribly overrated. Spoiler edit: And I wrote all of that without even mentioning her (lack of) musical talent. Can't sing, isn't a performer, she's like a step above Selena Gomez who is tragic as well but at least she brings the bops Edited February 10 by Mordecai 6 1

Gottasadae Posted February 10 Posted February 10 In my case, it’s really hard to understand her appeal. I mean, no shade just tea - she can’t sing, she can’t dance, she has some songwriting skills but very weak artistry with average performing skills at best. I like some of her songs but I will never pay a dime to see her "live", for me it just a plain mediocrity, so idk what those kids and some of 30yo gays see in her to even bother to attend her concerts 2
