Filthy Pop Posted January 20 Posted January 20 Her label has screwed her over a few times with lead single choice; she wanted A-Yo and that probably would've fared better. Just like MTN>BTW and Replay>SL. I swear if Interscope had handled ASIB we would've gotten Hair, Body, Face as the lead or smth 1

Konril Posted January 20 Posted January 20 Ahhh. The back to back sea of red updates if you refresh kworb.net. Perfect Illusioning we coined it then. Good times. 1 2

It was fun watching it flop into oblivion. 2 weeks straight of red updates. Not even the album cover reveal or the album title reveal could stop the bleeding.

People often criticize the "screams" when that's literally what makes the song but the reason it was never gonna be a hit though. Th Kevin demo is a whole other vibe that does not fit Gags imo. Also the entire musical landscape simply wasn't favorable for the song to be a hit imo, which is why the fact that Interscope thought it was "lead single worthy" is still mind-boggling to me. You got The Chainsmokers taking over the charts, Rap/Hip-Hop smashing, Trap-Pop on the rise, and.....you think this disco/rock song with shouty vocals was gonna be hit for Gaga? After ARTPOP? Her screams are unbearable 1 1
MadMax12 Posted January 20 Posted January 20 (edited) The intro sounds like a horror movie sound effect when the monster appears. Radios probably didn’t want to scare their listeners Edited January 20 by MadMax12 3
VioletsandRoses Posted January 20 Posted January 20 Pop rock ain’t a thing since 2007. Plus only Pink can pull it off with radio friendly raspy vocals.

vale9001 Posted January 22 Posted January 22 (edited) terrible song. Joanne in general is a very bad album. Poor female stars can only count on gay men. You can't really take a risk or a change sound but everything need to stay electronic- dance inspired or the 17 gays still stan you when you became over 26 will leave you too. The mix of electronic music, americana and country is so frankesteinly bad Edited January 22 by vale9001 1
The7thStranger Posted January 22 Posted January 22 Some of the people who are nastiest to Lady GaGa are some of her own fans, who refuse to accept any song she makes that isn't a synth-pop track. Perfect Illusion and Joanne in general was too outside of their wheelhouse, so they essentially bullied her into making Chromatica. And then bullied her for Stupid Love, I just...
Erreur2 La Nature Posted January 22 Posted January 22 Here in France which is arguably one of Gaga’s biggest markets, Monsters made PI debut at #1. It then broke the record of the biggest downfall of all time in the country and went OUT of the Top 200 on its second week, never charting again. A good indication that peaks mean absolutely nothing. Lady Gaga can and should hold herself to higher standards. She is talented and capable of doing many things but her music and most particularly her singles post TFM are atrocious. 1 1
Rebel Lion Posted January 23 Posted January 23 It was just a perfect illusion.mp3 so it doesn't really matter
playwithme Posted January 23 Posted January 23 It's not a bad song per se, but Gaga's vocals made it unlistenable garbage. Kevin Parker's version is miles better.

teenager Posted January 24 Posted January 24 it’s a loud and clunky mess from a horrible album. what went right? I still don’t know
Gesamtkunstwerk Posted January 24 Posted January 24 It just fitted weirdly into the pop landscape at the time, it's some kind of a synth-rock pop track ? Idk, I don't think anyone was checking for that sound in 2016. I think the song is alright, but it was obvious it wouldn't smash when it was first released. I can't get over how she scrapped the disco influenced project with Giorgio Moroder and Nile Rodgers for Joanne, she would've been so ahead of the curve if she went with that instead Worst career decision since getting humped by R Kelly on stage. 2
Bubble Tea Posted January 24 Posted January 24 A terrible song - never liked it. Until that point, Gaga could do no wrong in my eyes. I loved The Fame, obsessed over The Fame Monster, worshipped Born This Way and thought ARTPOP was a blast so when this absolutely dreadful dud dropped, followed my an incredibly boring album, I lost interest in her so quick. Sure it came back and I will always love Gaga, but whatever she was doing with that album... It makes Solar Power look like the next Ray of Light.
