Many of their recent reviews were quite boring and predictable but they were genuinely the last publication that I cared about, no matter how many times I keep telling myself "idc about p4k" after they underscore or lash one of my fave albums. They were one of the few left who dared to lash big names despite their cults of fans attacking them. We're stuck with ugly ass Rolling Stone 5/5 for everyone and their mothers. I agree. I enjoyed finding new music via Pitchfork because we're all trapped in algorithms on the streaming platforms -- it was nice to discover songs and artists I'd never have heard otherwise. But I guess people on a music forum can celebrate their downfall because they dared to give a low score to their faves. Yay? 1 2

uusagii Posted January 18 Posted January 18 I mean, I get the merging aspect of it, but why with GQ out of all their brands?

Superbitch Posted January 18 Posted January 18 Good!! The evil is defeated. They were always so predictable in what they’d praise and what they’d trash. Always too harsh on pop girlies.
ATRL Moderator supaspaz Posted January 18 ATRL Moderator Posted January 18 Definitely seeing some of you in an unfortunate new light after this thread, starting with @NewStanner.
GraceRandolph Posted January 18 Posted January 18 This is what they get for publishing that awful Rebecca Black review. 1
rihannafan Posted January 18 Posted January 18 Always sad when people lose their jobs. The music industry really needs a major shakeup. It should start by moving away from the teen music trend. 6
spiritboy Posted January 18 Posted January 18 Good riddance, that's what you get when you mess with Madame X. I never cared for them but i would be sad if they were objective. But that trash review written by a Mariah stan was awful and very subjective so i don't feel sorry for them. Maybe they'll leave their stan glasses out when they write a review the next time. 1
Phaunzie Posted January 18 Posted January 18 (edited) Pretty depressing, they helped me find new artists to listen to. Edited January 18 by Phaunzie
truthteller Posted January 18 Posted January 18 I guess the hipsters can only turn to TheNeedleDrop for reviews from now on 1
Noodles Posted January 18 Posted January 18 I’m… actually sad. They might be wrong sometimes (most recently PinkPantheress) but they have more hits than misses. And in my opinion, they are the ONLY mainstream music publication that has guts to criticize mediocre music despite the big fanbases. Now we’re just gonna have another Rolling Stones, which is a nightmare. Some of y’all rejoice because FINALLY y’all might get some validation from them. But everybody with a braincell knows this is bad bad news for music journalism. 4
Flanders Posted January 18 Posted January 18 Why would they gamble with such a strong brand? If they kill off pitchfork.com it's gonna hurt their readership so much
cOe Posted January 18 Posted January 18 Idk on one hand their reviews were often stupid and cruel (and I'll never forgive them for giving Mac Miller a 1 for his first album even tho I dislike it as well) on the other everyone was perched for the Pitchfork review thread coming on ATRL
#Beautiful Posted January 18 Posted January 18 had no clue halsey had stans in general let alone on this website. you look like a bunch of clowns
Letemtalk Posted January 18 Posted January 18 10 hours ago, shookspeare said: the users crying in here because they might have to form their own opinions now There are zero people on ATRL listening to 200,000+ artists and forming their own opinion, regardless of what they might say. Everyone is influenced by external influences, including streaming playlists, radio airplay, sales charts, YouTube "reaction" videos, tiktok, twitter and stans posting multiple 10/10 user reviews. 3
Galah Posted January 18 Posted January 18 Good, now some of y'all can stop basing your opinions on what "good music" is on the think pieces written by a handful of self-absorbed music elitists and actually form your own opinions in those pretty little heads. 1 1

The payola and favourism of Rolling Stone is very blatant.
conquxror Posted January 18 Posted January 18 so who wants to start a new online music magazine with me to take over pitchfork's fanbase? like, picture this: pitchfork. but instead of incels and nerds, all of the writers are twinks. 1
