Ariana with a computer pretending to produce “yes, and?”

She literally is even debating between vocal takes in this video, so even if you don’t know anything about producing or comping vocals you can see she’s listening to different takes and making decisions all the way through. What a truly moronic post and caption.

She actually is involved with the production though?

What she does is engineering not producing.

Exactly what I thought. That's why she's pausing after every line, trying to find the best take that she recorded. At least she's trying for more clarity. Still can't understand half of what she sings though lol.

It’s not really producing. It looks like she’s splitting up parts of different takes to get the final vocal (not sure what the term for this process is called).

It looks like she’s comping vocals, and that’s how you do it: you relisten to all the different takes, and then you pick the best part from each and stitch them together

have yall never seen frakenstiening before? shes literally going through all the takes she recorded to put together the perfect take.

I think Ari can produce and that little clip doesn't fully showcase her production skills. But let us have some kii this time :fan:

i mean that’s not particularly what vocal production is, but you can call it that i guess. :skull:

i wasn’t discrediting her either way.

Vocal comping is the process of merging only the best parts of each vocal recording to create one final audio file for each vocal track you plan on having in your mix.

Vocal comping is the process of merging only the best parts of each vocal recording to create one final audio file for each vocal track you plan on having in your mix.

I mean, what exactly are you wanting to see from her? Her going through the compiled vocal and applying different plugins like Melodyne? Talking in detail about things like EQ and how she later wants her vocals deep or on top of the mix? We've seen her in other clips not just compile vocal takes but do things like herself make creative decisions like doubling the vocal in the timeline (not sure if the language is 1:1 between video and audio editing software, sorry ddd) or delay takes over one another.

Part of this gets into the discussion that the music industry is about professional recording and, at the end of the day, people are paid well to do the job they're being paid for with the expertise and technical knowledge they bring. There's a reason why additional people are brought in to mix and master the song besides just the music producers.

Despite the fetishizing of doing everything yourself as more authentic, no company wants a poor product because people are tasked with jobs they simply lack the technical knowledge and expertise to do.
