Just read the whole article. At best it was reaching in places concerning Taylor's lyrics and imagery. At worst it was just a bunch of unrelated baloney. And she also called her a liar - tf??

This is literally the Streisand effect. There is a reason why Harry Styles never addressed Larries. She's making an oddly miscalculated move in addressing Gaylors.

oh jk, thought this would be some meta-analysis over Gaylors and she'd look silly reacting negatively to a niche columnist writing about the cultural implications of this cohort existing, but the author is actually one herself. Nurse!

She said that she's straight a thousand times yet the Gaylors keep going :gaycat7:. Apparently they also advocated for her to be put in a conservatorship because she won't come out...:biblio:

The 1989 TV Booklet dragged them Already. Imagine what Rep TV Booklet will have to say about that.

She's never been a real LGBT ally. Or a fake one.

Get over it.

I don't understand why some queer people stan her.

To me it's the dumbest thing

I’m totally against people speculating other people’s sexuality, but she can only really be offended by this she thinks there’s something wrong with being gay

I doubt a gay person would be bothered or would be offended if people mistook them for being straight, even if it happened often

Eg: I can’t imagine Ellen DeGeneres being hurt /offended or even care if someone thought she was straight

Only a straight person would hate this because they view LGBT as beneath them, even if it’s in a subconscious way.

Let Miss Swift live her own life in peace. The NYT writer can sit on a cactus.

Agreed with this. I don't enjoy Swift but speculating on this subject isn't right no matter about who it is. Whoever wrote this and whoever approved it should be fired.

Does she think being gay is degrading?

Or maybe just bad for business?

Nah.

You don’t think Ellen would be mad if there were tens of thousands who bonded in communities for a decade over conspiracies that Ellen pretended to be gay to sell an image, exploited her wife to hide her real identity and was tragically in love with Jimmy Fallon? And then massive NYT pieces pushing this?

It’s completely insane behavior, and I’m gay myself.

I’d be a little irritated too if a massive publication of published an article speculating on my sexuality after I’ve publicly spoken on it and have only ever dated the opposite sex. If it wasn’t her, I doubt they’d publish it about any other celeb.

I really don’t think she would be offended

IRL straight people hate it if someone thinks they’re gay/lesbian

Gay people are much less offended (if at all) the other way around

She has been an ally, as far back as the mid 2010s when she was donating to relief centers for homeless LGBTQ people in her home state of Tennessee at the time. She’s nowhere near as outspoken or provocative in her allyship as Madonna or Gaga have been for example, but that’s fine. She’s a musician not an activist. Her views and beliefs clearly align with equal rights regardless of race, gender, or sexuality (she has EXPLICITLY made this clear) so at that point her music and any corresponding events are safe spaces where queer people don’t have to feel unwelcome.

I don’t really get what’s dumb about queer people stanning a female musician, we don’t only need to be fans of people who are setting the city on fire in our honor?? We can be fans of artists who just create art that connects with us. Taylor makes music about unrequited love, I’d say that’s the foundation of her catalogue since her debut album (alongside finding your place in this world and being bold and proud enough to be who you are in spite of the naysayers) and both of those themes, ESPECIALLY unrequited love, connect heavily to the LGBTQ experience.

The nuance here is that we live in a heteronormative society. Ergo, the de facto assumption most people make is that the majority of people they encounter are heterosexual. Gay people do not take offense to being mistaken for straight because we understand the world we live in is a predominately straight one.

Regardless if there’s nothing wrong with being gay, then there’s no reason for someone to be offended if someone thinks you are

I’m gay. I would be extremely offended if the things I mentioned happened to me.

It’s not that people think you’re gay or straight. It’s the theories involving every aquantaince you have, the accusations of being a manipulative liar just for telling the truth.

The offense being taken here isn’t with being gay it’s with being made out to be a “cowardly liar” for “hiding her true sexuality”. She has established her sexuality many times, both directly and indirectly, and yet this rumor persists. It’s quite literally calling her integrity into question and blatantly disregarding the sexuality she identifies herself as.

Like Bloo mentioned to you, a misidentification is fine. A repetitive neglect to correct your misidentification is not fine.

and you most certainly can be offended at being identified incorrectly after identifying yourself. It’s why most transgender people understand being accidentally misgendered at first, but denounce being misgendered intentionally thereafter. There is nothing “wrong” with being another gender in that hypothetical, but it sure is offensive as hell to impose your interpretation of someone else’s identity onto their reality.

She has the right to be angry, this speculation about her life is getting weird.
