Madonna put out Papa Don’t Preach and Live to Tell.

Katy put out Swish Swish and Hey Hey Hey.

It's 2024 and we're still pretending Witness is a terrible album? Katy's behaviour was questionable, desperate and off-putting during the era but the album genuinely has good pop songs. Enough.

Hey Hey Hey MV is better than half of Madonna's "iconic" videography

Witness is much better and it was also iconic in 2017 culture lol a skipless album!

I'm confused the hair is not why Witness flopped. It is because she alienated a side of her fanbase and GP during the 2016 election.

1- random haircut out of nowhere, she could just go blonde but keep the long hair, idk

2- random wok/politics discurso that alienated GP

3- bad perfomances with childish vibes that were the opposite to her album theme (personal, woke)...

4- at least she could've go with: roulette/witness/dejavu/dancewiththedevil as singles and flop with grace!

These are always my thoughts. :cm:

Madonna  had ZERO competition in the "female pop". Celine, Mariah, Whitney or Janet made other types of music.

Katy and the post-2000s female acts are competing for ATRL's love with at least five other female pop acts. :santa:

One was an iconic album sign of its time. The other one was an attempt to reinvent a manufactured a pop singer.

Why are you trying to make Live to tell and Papa don't preach seem like a basic pop music :rip:

Being able to retain your vision and make contemporary smash hits is a massive accomplishment. I don’t like Madonna, but I have respect for anyone that can push the envelope while making smart pop music. Katy had no vision and none of songs sounded forward-thinking or even fresh. It’s not shocking that “Open Your Heart” smashed while “Chained To The Rhythm” underperformed and the other Witness singles bombed.

Live to Tell, Papa Don't Preach, and La Isla Bonita vs. Bon Appetite, Swish Swish, and Hey Hey Hey :rip:

I was a freshman in high school when Witness dropped and it's so weird how people stopped liking her just because of her hair. That really made her flop. That's all people would talk about, along with her cringe antics. The music was pretty good though except for some cringe lyrics here and there. She should have led with Witness (song), Chained to the Rhythm, and then Roulette as the final single.

Did Madonna release this?

One released good music, the other did not.

Or as one Katycat said here in 2017: Something had to go platinum

I think it's better to compare Witness to Erotica era cause Madonna had the same haircut and she flopped with that album.

And yet Erotica still clears everything on Witness.

I still believe Katy can have a comeback  :giraffe:

True Blue is a great album, Witness is not.

One has Open Your Heart. Other has... Act My Age.

Act My Age is a bop and a half! Should have been on the standard edition.

This comparison is literally serving billionaire vodka and sewage water. Madonna should never be compared to the lowest common denominator x

I don't think so because literally a huge part of the gp sees her as the "artist who fell off"... also if she really wants a TEOM or COADF kind of comeback she will need to have a huge image change along with a very good album(not just singles) and looking at everything she released this decade idk if she can pull that off

Katy is never coming back and I would be shocked if she does at best she can maybe have some level of Flower resurgence in her career but I doubt she gets people who check into her entire albums again if ever tbh :coffee2:
