who are 'we'?

People who can see through the hypocrisy of the EBU. Didn't your country get banned from Eurovision for invading another?

This is really such a shame. I was hoping he’d get the band back together after nightcall was so, poor. He has a great voice but really isn’t a musician. I think camping it all up and alienating the others was his worst move. I loved their first two records but Eurovision? I’d rather him step into acting because he’s gonna lose the last bit of his credibility. Watch him be the next Sam Ryder appearing in every advert possible for a couple hundred a throw.

There was no need to snatch the albums they had as a band to make it seem like it was solo :deadbanana2: whether it was okay’d but the previous band or not, he isn’t solely responsible for their previous output

Should’ve just used this to launch his solo career, given his nods and blessings to his past and leave it at that - changing all the videos and tracks is :rip:

that pic really isn’t for me either, I was a huge Y&Y fan but just to echo what everyone has previously said the quality really deteriorated since he was solo

He still works with the band for touring and some studio sessions, but after SP they kinda didn’t want to put their name to what was being made.

also I he would go with song like TIES he would be good, but there would probably some gay anthem that will send him to places 22-25

The way this will pretty much be the reality of the situation :gaycat7:

Am I the only one who likes Night call? I don't get the hate.

Communion > Night Call > Palo Santo

I'm sure I will love the song and I think he will have an album ready?

Danny L Harle being involved means the song won’t be complete shite at least (unlike this year’s entry).

He needs some heavy rehearsing tho. We can’t afford another train wreck of a performance.

What was the point of releasing that soundtrack song a couple of weeks ago under Y&Y?

It’s sad because they made magic, but the first two albums could have stayed as Y&Y and everything solo since changed to his name. I’m glad they’re on good terms still though

The first two albums should remain as Years & Years, love Olly but this is kind of disrespectful to the other members. Maybe they don't care though, as long as they get royalties etc. Still an obnoxious move.

1. after they semi-disbanded in 2021, Olly released a statement saying he and the other band members are still cool. i wonder if this remains true… maybe they supported this, even tho it appears shady.

2. i stopped liking Y&Y ever since Olly went solo. the music just wasn’t as good, imo. first 2 albums were incredible.

3. kinda irrelevant, but how famous is Olly and Y&Y in Europe and the UK (scale from 1 to 10)? i live in the US, so i can’t quite gauge.

In the UK I would say he's like a 5 or a 6. He's very well known among young people (and especially young LGBTQ people) for his music, and he extended his appeal a bit to middle aged people with his performance in It's A Sin. But it's also hard not to feel like his music career has fallen off a bit in the last couple of years. B-list is probably the best description.

I can't say much for continental Europe other than he's less famous there than in the UK.

@Communion this is the time to ask if your username is referencing the Years and Years album

It is! :chick3:

I think the issue for me is Olly's live vocals just aren't that amazing... could be what separates a good showing from a mediocre one.

The singles from Communion were hits in my little Balkan country. They even shot the Eyes Shut music video in my city lol.

King charted in a bunch of Central and Eastern European countries but I doubt people could name Olly Alexander.

I don’t get the Night Call hate in here at all. That’s a great album! The singles from the first album were amazing but as a whole I much prefer NC and Palo Santo - which is the best. My god, what an album. I think with Danny behind him, he could make a massive splash at Eurovision, I’m really excited. The general public love him, the gays are here and there about him but I think that’s just jealous gays being jealous gays as always.

Didn’t even know they were a band, I thought he was always a solo project.

it is well known that the other 2 did not like palo santo (the only song they contributed to is the best song on the album). i think olly became too egotistical.

i actually liked PS he most out of all the albums.
