teenager Posted December 16, 2023 Posted December 16, 2023 There was no need to snatch the albums they had as a band to make it seem like it was solo whether it was okay’d but the previous band or not, he isn’t solely responsible for their previous output Should’ve just used this to launch his solo career, given his nods and blessings to his past and leave it at that - changing all the videos and tracks is that pic really isn’t for me either, I was a huge Y&Y fan but just to echo what everyone has previously said the quality really deteriorated since he was solo 4
computer.boy Posted December 17, 2023 Posted December 17, 2023 Not a big fan of this change, his career kinda fell off after Emre and Mickey left the project. Both Communion / Palo Santo should've stayed as a Y&Y release and move Night Call to Olly's solo page, imo. 6
hallucinate Posted December 17, 2023 Posted December 17, 2023 HATE that it’s going to mess up his/their last fm profile & my scrobbles 2
State of Grace. Posted December 17, 2023 Posted December 17, 2023 (edited) This is so messy & ugly. Could have just left Y&Y's page and started fresh then maybe add Olly's name as a second artist to all tracks....whatever. Communion and (most of) Palo Santo were really great so it's kinda sad to see this happening. Edited December 17, 2023 by State of Grace. 1

Big budget album campaign that kicks off with Eurovision. He wanted to just be Olly Alexander, label wanted Olly Alexander (Years & Years), so they’re doing both. Older songs have what the label want, new material is just Olly Alexander, and it’s a renewed 360 deal with his management. Honestly i think giving him big budget is a risky business move His music has declined in quality without the other 2 members. It's like Black Eyed Peas losing their magic without Fergie. Doing this rebranding (Olly Alexander - Years & Years) actually alienates / annoys the band's remaining fans even more UK seems to be in favor of urban music rather than dance music atm (even Dua's new dance single only performs decently but not a smash) So Olly's genre is not exactly guaranteed to smash As a matter of fact if they want to have a big comeback, it's time they reunite the band and recapture that 1st album instead of going solo IMO. If I were the label I would only give him big budget if they have the band reuniting Do you have any tea on other members? Are Olly & them still in touch? Edited December 17, 2023 by reymiu
Bloodflowers. Posted December 17, 2023 Posted December 17, 2023 Communion is a masterpiece album, everything that came after their remix Tove Lo song in 2016 wasn't not up on pair anymore 3
Zeferino Posted December 17, 2023 Posted December 17, 2023 Mess I remember olly saying Y&Y (the three of them) would, like, release 4 albums until he’d want something of his own

The only dance hits that use modern sounds recently are both slapp house (10:35, Padam Padam) from legends of the genre.
BlackJesus Posted December 17, 2023 Posted December 17, 2023 He should have left the old stuff on the Y&Y page and released new stuff on his own
UNNAMI Posted December 17, 2023 Posted December 17, 2023 first of all - **** him, this will screw my last.fm stats, good I am no longer listening to him second of all - first albums with band should be still under Y&Y, night call the only album can be renamed like this. he is douche for doing that and this is very wrong
UNNAMI Posted December 17, 2023 Posted December 17, 2023 also I he would go with song like TIES he would be good, but there would probably some gay anthem that will send him to places 22-25

I'm not from UK but when I see that Sprinter was no.1 for what, 7 or 8 weeks - it's obvious that UK's music taste is slowly moving away from dance And now we see that urban-inspired (Tate McRae's Greedy) or afrobeats (Tyla's Water) are smashing harder than Dua's Houdini (arguably the biggest dance act from UK the past few years). The change is even more evident tbh.

XtinaStripped Posted December 17, 2023 Posted December 17, 2023 Used to be a fan but since the last album I literally can’t stand him now. He gets given so many chances in his career for such moderate success.

Pendulum Posted December 17, 2023 Posted December 17, 2023 @Communion this is the time to ask if your username is referencing the Years and Years album
Mr.X Posted December 17, 2023 Posted December 17, 2023 We're still boycotting Eurovision for including Israel yet again though, so Olly can go rot 5 1

campelo Posted December 17, 2023 Posted December 17, 2023 The group ended because they outgrew musically and I blame Emre. Mikey is still pretty much involved in the music (instrumentalist wise)
