this thread alone is why Taylor will NEVER be bigger than Madonna.  It's almost painful to compare those songs.  Taylor's music is so basic.

I'll remind everyone that Madonna had album sales + smash hits around the world + huge tours + impact. 

 

Taylor lacks #1 hits in most countries and the GP in most countries probably only know Blank Space and Shake It Off as not even Cruel Summer was that big outside of the US. 

 

Whoever thinks she's on par with Madonna should do some research that doesn't compile of mass-buying, streaming playlists and inflated ticket prices in a booming concert era.

Buying three variants of the same album and then listening to it on the internet is like 4 units already and that's just one person 

 

Meanwhile, Madonna had one version and no tracking of how many times a fan listened to it at home and the singles from the album and how many times they were bought and listened to at home don't count towards her album sales either and yet they claim one is remotely comparable to the other

their comeback will be that if streaming was around then her sales would be less, and while that may be true, they IGNORE the fact that Madonna had 32 years of a career before streaming became a thing in 2015, so she would have 32 years worth of free streams.  DOUBLE Taylor's entire career existence.  Would Madonna be at the same CSPS as she is now? Absolutely not.  She would be probably 5x the amount she currently has.  Maybe 10x.
