laqqinq Posted December 3, 2023 Posted December 3, 2023 there’s no mention of tate mcrae at all, anywhere in the article. why are a few here asking/assuming/guessing there would be? lol

laqqinq Posted December 3, 2023 Posted December 3, 2023 disgusting to casually call someone a pick-me to uplift the subject. this does not correlate at all, tbvh. and on top of that, if you even want to refer to “extravagant” moves, statements, actions, or even antics, etc. every big mainstream pop star has had those at least once in their career, i think they can’t let 2 women (and their achievements and their careers and their images) co-exist

Rev8 Posted December 3, 2023 Posted December 3, 2023 They even dragged Beyonce in this CNN is so dusty for letting this article go live they dont understand that Swifties have a lot of articles already and will only get (rightfully) the wrath of the other 2 fanbases
Movimento Perpétuo Posted December 3, 2023 Posted December 3, 2023 CNN knew exactly what they were doing
OrgVisual Posted December 3, 2023 Posted December 3, 2023 Can someone tell Richard Gallan that nobody wants to hear his "Opinion" and it's not cool for an old white guy trying to appeal to teenage girls?
Just a Gay on ATRL Posted December 3, 2023 Posted December 3, 2023 Who cares about anything CN/AN/A says in 2023?
Communion Posted December 3, 2023 Posted December 3, 2023 (edited) I'm sorry but the "TAYLOR IS #AUTHENTIC!, ARIANA IS A #TRENDYFAD" is always going to come down to some weird anti-r&b vibe no matter how much people play it off; the author then deciding to inexplicably group Ariana and Beyonce together as examples of women who lack what Taylor apparently has is.. interesting and increasingly underlines this weird tension despite Ariana being a white woman. There is literally no argument to be made of Ariana having some forced, incoherent evolution - especially when such a claim is at odds with the constant flamebait that Ariana has allegedly only ever made boring pop-r&b music and "needs to switch it up, no more ringtone music!!!!" Let alone it's insulting not only to both Ariana and Beyonce's fanbases, but Taylor's own largely female fanbase if music can only ever be deemed "accessible" (and thus authentic) if it enters into the informational peripheral of uhhh old men like this: Edited December 3, 2023 by Communion 1 2
Cruel Summer Posted December 3, 2023 Posted December 3, 2023 It’s deeply disappointing that CNN can’t praise a talented, hard-working young woman without putting down another talented, hard-working young woman in the same breath for literally no reason.
State of Grace. Posted December 3, 2023 Posted December 3, 2023 A really terrible article from a really terrible media network
Communion Posted December 3, 2023 Posted December 3, 2023 Also bit weird of the OP to for some reason focus on a quote from a 12/02 article but only link to a 12/03 article that references it, and not including that the full quote from the original article which also name-drops Michael Jackson, Britney Spears, and Madonna as examples of icons who Taylor has surpassed in mastering the art of branding: Quote Constant reinvention is a given in pop iconhood, as countless prior and peer artists — from Michael Jackson and Madonna to Britney Spears and Justin Bieber — can attest. But no one else does it with the same casual, frictionless aplomb as Swift; her self-shifts don’t come off as acts of extravagant pick-me theater in the mode of Ariana Grande, or explosive artistic statements a la Beyoncé. Instead, they’re more like chord changes; variations in the key of Tay — eyebrow-raising, but never too extreme or off-putting. Which means that throughout all of her evolutions, she has remained accessible, approachable, personable and projectable; a cool hang for the guys, trusted bestie to the girls. https://www.cnn.com/2023/12/02/opinions/taylor-swift-conquers-capitalism-yang/index.html Seeing Chart Masters get linked to in a CNN article is so funny though knkjnj someone find Ms. Jeff Yang's account on here! 1 1

A lot of Taylor's success simply comes down to the fact that she is calculatedly bland and unprovoking, and plays it deliberately safe to keep her appeal as universal as possible. I guess some people like that and need that, but I would choose the explosive artistry of Beyoncé or the extravagance of Ariana any day of the week. 3
Steve Johnson Posted December 3, 2023 Posted December 3, 2023 Taylor Swift - Biggest artist of the century. Eras Tour- Biggest tour of all time
Freakshowvato Posted December 3, 2023 Posted December 3, 2023 why are they picking on Ariana? She did nothing.

I didn't do a deep dive through the author's page and the 12/03 article is the only one that came up on my feed. I wasn't aware the quote was originally published a day prior. Maybe they should've mentioned the 12/02 article by its headline as opposed to hiding it in a vague hyperlink What's actually weird is that two pieces that are so similar were published within a day of one another.
Raiden Posted December 4, 2023 Posted December 4, 2023 CNN does nothing but sink ever deeper into one garbage after another
