I think what many also forget is that Diana was someone who conformed to a lot of the rules and regulation of the industry whereas Bey, now more than ever, is all about breaking those boxes and rules Thanks! And yes. This discourse is very much forgetting what the aims of Motown were insofar as getting Black music on the radio and the things they had to do in terms of image, sound, and demeanour to achieve that. By the time Destiny's Child came around (although as Beyoncé said no major fashion brands wanted to dress them) they were able to be as "themselves" expressing their culture, upbringing, ways of speaking/singing, and of course their fashion AND still having massive mainstream success. Something like this is not anything a Supreme ever would have worn, but if they debuted in the 1990s they probably would have. And though it doesn't conform to traditional forms of glamour, for the audience (young women of the 1990s) this WAS glamour. The embellishments, the attention to detail, etc. Older generations probably thought it was gaudy and classless, but glamour (as an extension of beauty) really is in the eye of the beholder. It's also really funny because if we are TRULY about to assess their glamour level based on what they present, THIS is Diana Ross' debut album. Now compare it to Beyoncé's. Which is more glamorous? Diana was a glamour girl but she just as readily showed other sides of herself as well, such as the era of her wet white t-shirt. Edited December 2, 2023 by swissman
qurl Posted December 2, 2023 Posted December 2, 2023 i think some of y’all are treating this song/thinking of it like it’s the lead single of a new era when the entire song is just a fun lil victory lap. it’s literally just like 7/11 … not meant to be anything more than something fun to throw ass to. and ironically y’all are saying how trash it is while she’s literally saying in the song she doesn’t give a $h!t what you think 12 1

If there was a Beyoncé record that both of her Miami female rap superfans Trina and Brianna Perry could hop on.... this is the one. I remember her freaking out when B posted this on her site in 2012/2013.
Rigalo Posted December 2, 2023 Posted December 2, 2023 This is a very classic sounding Beyonce song imo I’m shocked at all the discourse 1
WitnessOblivia Posted December 2, 2023 Posted December 2, 2023 It's a bop, I don't really see the problem.

The back and forth essays and dissertations in here are a scream Bey has ran her race and won with a full blown and well rounded legacy REGARDLESS of what you think so either shut the **** up or gtfo if you don't like the song. It's quite simple. A droplet from a concert film should not be disrupting life this much but I forget, this is Beyoncé. Everything must be overanalyzed and carefully pondered like we're playing chess.
Maxxxine Posted December 3, 2023 Posted December 3, 2023 It grew on me. Lend your soul to intuitions Renaissance, new revolution.
Escape Posted December 3, 2023 Posted December 3, 2023 Not including this on RENAISSANCE was the correct decision.
shark_heather Posted December 3, 2023 Posted December 3, 2023 Its a crime this wasn't a bonus or a hidden track on Renaissance She really is the Goddess of our generation
Raptus Posted December 3, 2023 Posted December 3, 2023 First 2 minutes are useless, but after that it gets good.
Movimento Perpétuo Posted December 3, 2023 Posted December 3, 2023 I just love this. ATRL showing no taste as always 1
ATRL Moderator khalyan Posted December 3, 2023 ATRL Moderator Posted December 3, 2023 I am loving this more and more with every listen Unpopular opinion but I like the first half more. I think some of the lyrics in the second half are just a little RuPaul-esque in a way but it still bops.

4th Time Around Posted December 3, 2023 Posted December 3, 2023 Surprised to see so much negativity, I thought this was pretty fun. Definitely a good call leaving it off the album though.
