Everything works when you listen to it and understand what's being said, but I'm glad that it resonates with people in general. we lost sister
Suilen Posted January 31 Posted January 31 I have a suspicion that Subomie set it up so that the top 2 is Marseilles and either Sakura or traveling, another person who revels in my misery 2
Graves Posted January 31 Author Posted January 31 Fui ni... ware ni... kaeri... kurari... Haru no... yoru no... yume no... gotoshi... 11 x 1 (Me!!!) HIGHEST SCORE: 10 x 6 (Curaga, AMIT, Ewan Chaos, Aria0327, confide in me, Reverie) LOWEST SCORE: 8 x 4 (Take Me Apart, Cruel Summer, Hey Dude, nostalgic) MY SCORE: 11 Now this? This is what we call a Main Pop Girl moment. traveling is, by my estimation, the greatest thing Hikaru Utada has ever done. It's a perfect package. Deep River is simply the most satisfying era they ever had, at least in my mind. They were still coming off of that insane peak and with all of their chart power as strong as ever, only now it was buoyed by a wonderfully developed sense of creativity and newly refined sense of their craft. The album was amazing, the imagery was gorgeous, and the lead single? A whole fuckin' bop! Dropped in November of 2001, traveling was the first new track from Deep River that the public were blessed with (seeing as Final Distance was a remake of an older track). I probably don't need to tell you this, but it was another million-certified #1 for Hikki. A smash hit, as they say. It's one of those moments when a pop star is firing on all cylinders. The song is next level, the cover art is gorgeous, and the video is one of their absolute best! The creative partnership between Hikaru and their husband at the time, Kazuaki Kiriya, gave us the best visuals of their career. No doubt. And this is the best one out of all of them! The song itself? Literally perfect. Jumping into a dance-pop sound with no hesitation, Utada finds that it fits it like a glove. A banger of a chorus that is kept afloat by fun storytelling lyricism and a breathless, back-and-forth delivery. It's a song that takes you to a place of ecstasy every time that chorus rolls around. Not to mention the little double entendres scattered throughout - all of the riding imagery? Or how about "Can you keep it up? you look quite good..." . Is it really a coming of age album without a little bit of filth? This song is a mainstay in Hikaru setlists, and for good reason too: it's a total crowd pleaser! As soon as those twinkly synths start coming in at the beginning you have no choice... you're getting up and bopping along with them! Curaga is that girl I knew they were. An icon. "Love it. I never skip this when it comes on shuffle." Call the police! Ewan Chaos's taste is too damn good! "It should be illegal for a song to be this good." And I'll let AMIT close us out, once more. "the most energetic and adventurous song on the album, it grips you at the very beginning and demands your attention until the very end. a certified classic and the mv is once again amazing." Can you take me up? You look quite good... Can you keep it up? I would like to... 2 3
Curaga Posted January 31 Posted January 31 Really really amazing. Excellent choice for an 11. They did THAT. 1
Ewan Chaos Posted January 31 Posted January 31 AHHHHH damn I love Sakura too but I would have loved to have had this at #1, somewhat regretting not giving it my 11. Very respectable place for it though. Marseilles for the win and I'm guessing it'll cinch it! I feel like there's still at least like 6 11s floating around and I imagine most, if not all, of them went to it. 1
Suilen Posted January 31 Posted January 31 Well traveling winning would be a tad predictable since it's a clear fan favorite BUT WE'RE IN A TRENCHES HERE, SO I'D TAKE IT 1

Suilen Posted January 31 Posted January 31 @Subomie in addition to my meltdown I also wrote a post about what a great host you were, so maybe a bit of last minute rigging? 2
Reverie Posted January 31 Posted January 31 Well one is a 10 for me and one is not so that's the one I will be rooting for 1
Meloetta Carey Posted January 31 Posted January 31 Maybe the write-up will make me like Sakura Drops more. 2
Curaga Posted January 31 Posted January 31 3 minutes ago, Hey Dude said: I believe both were a 10 from me Same, I’m gonna have to be more tactful next rate lmao Love Marseilles to death, but she’s not #1 for me
Graves Posted January 31 Author Posted January 31 You hunties better get me that next page if you want the reveal!!!!
Reverie Posted January 31 Posted January 31 I have close to zero regrets with my scores, if anything I should've been even more honest 1
Fleabag Posted January 31 Posted January 31 Didn’t have time to do the rate cause the holidays were just way too busy, but I’ve been eagerly following along. Would be happy with either winning but also need Sakura Godrops to pull through! 4
