I work in a consultancy that works with the largest business and investment institutions in the world and most of them use WhatsApp because it's the only messaging app that is truly global.

I remember being one of the first people in my friends circle to use WhatsApp, then everyone switched to it. The UI is ugly and outdated, not to mention their stories that only like 3 people I know keep using. 
 

But I love how you can manipulate your “profile pic seen for”, “who can see you’re online”, “read receipts”.

WhatsApp is the most used messaging app in the world, by all social classes. In the Google Play Store alone, the app has been downloaded more than 5000M times. What I do agree with is that the interface of WA for iPhone is horrible, on Android it is more attractive. I can't speak for other countries (But I'm pretty sure it's the most used messaging app in Latin America), but in my country, Mexico, it is the most used app by almost the entire country, even by iPhone users. Here we also have free SMS but nobody uses them, it's old fashioned; in the early 2000's it was popular. WhatsApp is not only used for chatting, it is also used for all kinds of paperwork, education, work, business, etc. No wonder it's such a widely used application in the world, it's wonderful. Maybe the lower class is you. Upgrade, loser!

Tbh WhatApp was just that global gorl before Facebook bought her out and was like the only option for Android users while Google was throwing **** at a wall with 50 messaging apps. Everyone should have moved to the alternatives to avoid the datamining and in-app ads, but no Meta continues having their foot on everyone's neque in 2023. I don't blame them.

Before WhatsApp, SMS messages were very popular for Android. Nowadays nobody uses them, only in the USA. In my country (México) they are free but nobody is interested.
