Vintage tee, brand new phone High heels on cobblestones When you are young, they assume you know nothing Sequin smile, black lipstick Sensual politics When you are young, they assume you know nothing But I knew you Dancin' in your Levi's Drunk under a streetlight, I I knew you Not debating you Just adding context I learned from a video recently. The lyrics actually have more complexity than you might initially recognize, when you analyze them. They’re contrasting ideas in each line that highlight conflicting ideas much like the narrator’s struggle throughout the song. VINTAGE (classic, old) tee BRAND NEW phone High heels (a pretty modern shoe) on cobblestones (antiquated pavement) Sequin smile (shiny, bright, sparkly) BLACK lipstick (dark, dim, drab) Sensual (intimate, private, hushed) Politics (abrasive, public) I’ll try to find the TikTok and post in this thread it really made me appreciate cardigan a lot more 2 2
Goaty Posted November 8, 2023 Posted November 8, 2023 Frozen is good, but it’s not the greatest song ever. Naturally I’m not surprised to see so many in here turn their noses up at any mention of Taylor as if the very comparison itself is sacrilegious. 5
Popular Post Goaty Posted November 8, 2023 Popular Post Posted November 8, 2023 The lyrics to Cardigan are not mundane. It’s a masterclass in playing with tone, double-meanings, and irony. There’s a reason it’s widely considered one of Taylor’s best-written songs to date. 19

There's not just only one way to tell a good story. Taylor likes to describe detailed scenes, Madonna concentrates on simplicity to express emotion. Also you could post so many lyrics that sound boring on paper: "You′re so consumed with how much you get You waste your time with hate and regret You're broken When your heart's not open If I could melt your heart We′d never be apart Give yourself to me You hold the key" This could just as well be a good country/blues-song on paper. Axelios Posted November 8, 2023 Posted November 8, 2023 Why are people acting like Frozen lyrics are somewhat special 'Love is a bird, she needs to fly' What makes Frozen interesting for its time is mostly the production not the lyrics/melodies 5 1 1

They are "concrete", just like most of Lana's work (she also doesn't have a song like Frozen). I think some of songs on Reputation have a more abstract/reflective approach - being canceled may be the hardest think Taylor endured during her career. Sonically, even Style or Lavender Haze are closer to Frozen than Cardigan is. Edited November 8, 2023 by G.U.Y. 1

The question is - does she have a song as good as Frozen. So I’m not sure why you’re hung up on pointing out differences here when that’s not the point of the thread. 3

Seriously Frozen’s brilliance is in the production, melody, and vocal delivery. The lyrics are successful but certainly not a highlight of the song. 4

ParisxHilton Posted November 8, 2023 Posted November 8, 2023 Madonna has the fan favourite (and best song in her discography) Give Me All Your Luv 1
Soda Pop Queen Posted November 9, 2023 Posted November 9, 2023 lol I'm sure she does to some here. Should've asked does she have a video as good as Frozen. Nothing particularly sticks in my mind with a Taylor visual, no matter how high her budgets are.
Sabrina Carpenter Posted November 9, 2023 Posted November 9, 2023 just listened to Frozen for the first time and it's not even that good? so yes 90% of Taylor's discography is better than that 1 5 3
