Not My Problem is amazing, its a very specific and conceptual song, its not as round as the rest of the FN tracks aim to be, but it has a nice magic, it sounds very truthful and organic. And its just a bop overall. An absolute dark horse on FN.

The Dollar Tree version maybe

"Only Girl" went #3 in its second week on the Hot 100. It was already a big hit when "What's My Name" came out. Whereas "Houdini" is serving "Not Myself Tonight"

The song is cool but the hook is way too weak for a big global pop lead single. And the lyrical conceit is too obscure to your average Gen Z teenager streaming on the school bus. Houdini is not THAT iconic. Basically they done ****** up. The next single NEEDS to be a super smash. Call Max Martin if you need to.

we aren't desperate to call max martin like dua isn't katy perry or something like that, houdini isn't performing well but that doesn't mean the whole album or singles are going to flop like witness, bionic or joanne.

houdini is a really good song and even if it doesn't end being a big hit still a great song + she literally has so many smash hits like DSN or levitating without a big producer like max martin, she doesn't need that and we don't want that...

I'm not sure how I feel about this comment. So I checked on the song again and went to hell and blocked it.

Physical

Don't Start Now

Cool

Lost in Your Light

IDGAF

New Rules

No Goodbyes

Last Dance

One Kiss

We're Good

But my god she has so many good songs, some of the DL1 tracks are fillers, but they're not too bad, the only really terrible songs are Not My Problem, Sweetest Pie and Demeanor

She is actually in a much worse spot than Katy. Katy at least had a fanbase that meant her releases had big debuts. "Roar" did over 500k first week digital sales. Prism sold over 280k copies in its first week. Even Chained to the Rhythm debuted in the Top 5 of the Hot 100 and Witness did 180k first week.

Meanwhile Dua never has high debuts for her singles or albums. Future Nostalgia couldn't even crack 70k units first week. None of the singles she's released since (We're Good, Dance the Night, Houdini) managed huge debuts. She is completely a GP artist so the second she stops having hits that's it.

Trust that they are in panic mode rn. Next single is the most important for the rest of her career.

If Katy had a fanbase then she wouldn't be where she is right now though. Those debuts were mostly GP-fueled and that's why she couldn't even crack the Hot 100 when they completely left her.

Also, you're comparing an American pop star to a British pop girl who had to slowly break into the US. That's an important detail to keep in mind when comparing Dua to other MPGs considering not many British girls have managed to be as successful as her there. If you look at her main market (UK), Dua also manages huge debuts. Houdini debuted at #2 (oh #2ua :toofunny3:) there and it was Top 5 last week without the Christmas songs flooding the chart. It also debuted at #11 (her luck is just:rip:in the US and that's a major improvement from Don't Start Now (#30). Future Nostalgia's debut on the BB200 was already great all things considered so I detect a bit of revisionism here.

I do actually agree that Dua seems to have a very small fanbase and she is still pretty much reliant on the general public in the US especially, but this post is unnecessarily serving panic mode as if she released multiple singles this album cycle and they all missed the charts. Relax sis.
