Solaria Posted October 25, 2023 Posted October 25, 2023 Spotify has announced that in 2024 they won’t give royalties anymore for songs that dont meet a minimum amount of streams. This is concerning for smaller artists as I believe they have the RIGHT to earn money from their music and live off of it. I honestly think that the big mainstream artists like The Weeknd, Ariana, Taylor etc should keep off their catalogue from Spotify until they agree to reverse this decision. Thoughts? 7

Carry My Heart Posted October 25, 2023 Posted October 25, 2023 The threshold is 200 streams, it really isn't that big of a deal. And 99.5% of all uploaded works won't be affected. 7 1

Spotify has problems in general with paying smaller artists way too little 10 1
Indie Go Mind Posted October 25, 2023 Posted October 25, 2023 Does anyone have the full article? Stupid paywall in the way. I wanna know what's the minimum needed. 1

babyboy1 Posted October 25, 2023 Posted October 25, 2023 Let Beyonce and Rihanna do it first. The rest will follow. 1 3

You can't encourage some of the biggest artists in the world to remove their music from the biggest streaming platform based off hypothetical situations that haven't taken place. 2

Erreur2 La Nature Posted October 25, 2023 Posted October 25, 2023 I heard about this new rule from Spotify. This is really sick and I do agree that those who have the power to change things should unite against Spotify but they will never do it lol 2 3

When She decided to leave Spotify for 3 years of course It was also cause scott barchetta and her label agreed with her, or She couldn't Edited October 25, 2023 by vale9001

adylovestaylorandjb Posted October 25, 2023 Posted October 25, 2023 I don't want Taylor to do. She did. No major artist came in her support. No need to become sacrificial goat again. 5

dumbsparce Posted October 25, 2023 Posted October 25, 2023 Do you think the money they would make from 199 streams would put food on the table? 1 2
Solaria Posted October 25, 2023 Author Posted October 25, 2023 2 minutes ago, dumbsparce said: Do you think the money they would make from 199 streams would put food on the table? The point is is that Spotify treats artists like garbage, it's not JUST about this new rule. Small artists are struggling to live off their music, not to mention beginning artists who are signed to a big label, they rarely see any profit at all. Everything goes to either streaming services or the label itself. Mainstream artists hold the power to incite change. 1
