Janet fans acting like her music was not commercial when she had commercial videos, commercial songs for her time. It is just that she never touched heights of madonna whitney mariah. That doesn't make her sade Or enya rofl

Didn’t know any of them but I’m glad I was introduced to them.

They’re all great, especially Love Will Never Do

To be fair Madonna, Whitney and Mariah (pre Butterfly) were more Pop than Janet though, so that gave them an advantage over her worldwide.

That doesn't make her non commercial. The narrative is that her fans like to make her some non commercial artist when she wasn't. She had high publicity, videos to go with commercial music. She wasn't non mainstream like sade Or enya.

I see the usual have invaded this thread.

Nope. Dont know any of them. Im from Southamerica and i think she was overshadowed by Michael Jackson here.

Im totally sure is one of the reason why she's so unrecognized sometimes wtih the exception of the USA.  Even with the best music her brother was the most successful singer-all time. He stole her spotlight :gaycat5:

But im so curious. From all the largest divas janet jackson discography is my most unrecognized one. i cant wait to check all her records.

Ok whose dupe is that?

Of course. When I was a kid I sought out to listen to all of the music by the legendary women who paved the way to know the historical record.

Mariah pre-Butterfly (minus 2/3rd of Litter Box) was not more pop than Janet's RN and Control. Debut was contemporary R&B and Emotions was entirely influenced by Motown sounds (soul, gospel, disco, even jazz). And Daydream rather than Butterfly was her initial shift to hip-hop influenced R&B (while still maintaining some contemporary R&B tracks like One Sweet Day).

This topic is so tired, though. Downplaying Janet's impact on atrl will never take away from all that she achieved.

I did not, nobody should feel personally attacked by that fact either

First time I'm reading about that

It is my only id. Don't accuse without proof

No, honestly I didn't know she has that many #1s before ATRL.

I only knew Rhythm Nation the song. Knew all the other songs after getting into her music. Shame the Super Bowl destroyed her career

No
