Matthew4815 Posted October 20, 2023 Posted October 20, 2023 No - How I'm Feeling Now and CRASH are great. Speed Drive and In The City are fine.
wish Posted October 20, 2023 Posted October 20, 2023 Sadly, yes. And it's really interesting that her commercial success is rising, while her music quality is declining.
attention Posted October 20, 2023 Posted October 20, 2023 the dance singles inbetween are for fun and maybe to keep afloat with mainstream coin since gp leans more towards that stuff. I wouldn’t discount her just yet since she still likes to explore different sounds

Jooj Posted October 20, 2023 Posted October 20, 2023 No. And How Im Feeling Now (and True Romance) are far better than all of the albums you mentioned
Bubble Tea Posted October 20, 2023 Posted October 20, 2023 No she's continued to grow and is these days better than ever. She's done the "proving myself" bit, she's a talented, versatile artist with longevity. If she wants to f*ck around and release a few cute lil bops here and there, go for it. Crash was intentionally a concept "sell out" album, she was playing at being the pop star she was "supposed" to be (according to her label at some point presumably) and she still had bangers and her own preferences strongly woven throughout. I would say she's constantly on the incline and severely underrated.
Archetype Posted October 20, 2023 Posted October 20, 2023 It’s really easy to identify mid-late stage Charli fans because they completely forget about Sucker, which is her worst and most sellout album (and it’s not even bad). Y’all continue to misunderstand that she deliberately made this song to be a basic, accessible, and fun bop. It doesn’t mean she’s going to stop making experimental music, but she doesn’t need to always do that. It’s not even worth the analysis. 2 1
Lady Claire Posted October 20, 2023 Posted October 20, 2023 Some of you say that just bc she's chasing a more mainstream sound lol I'm sorry but Stan Twitter yasses and Pitchfork scores doesn't pay her bills. She wants some success and well, Speed Drive was her biggest song in years and Crash was her most successful album to date. She's right to keep on going and wanting to be bigger than she is. Also she makes pretty good pop music, just bc it isn't hyperpop or some weird sounds with autotune it doesn't mean it's bad
brenda-walsh Posted October 20, 2023 Posted October 20, 2023 well she's only put out droplet singles since Crash, most of which have been collabs or like Speed Drive, for a movie. i still really enjoy her output and sidenote: i think her self-titled album is just okay, it definitely isn't on the level of Pop 2 or HIFN
Contessa Posted October 20, 2023 Posted October 20, 2023 (edited) She hasn’t released quality material since 2020 (sans baby & hot in it) so her time’s running out to keep us interested Edited October 20, 2023 by Contessa
Jacobdaniel Posted October 20, 2023 Posted October 20, 2023 no. she's just having fun with this singles era, and the songs are actually pretty good imo. she's also teased stuff in dj sets with ag that sounds very hyperpop and clubby. her next album is going to be very different from what she's doing now
havewemet Posted October 20, 2023 Posted October 20, 2023 I thought Crash was her best overall album ever! I love Charli in full pop star mode.
Into The Void Posted October 20, 2023 Posted October 20, 2023 No Crash was so much better than her previous 2 albums which were awful 2
SimpleKindofLife Posted October 20, 2023 Posted October 20, 2023 I think the polarizing response in this thread just proves her versatility. You may not like her latest album or song but that could completely change with the next release
alfonso12 Posted October 20, 2023 Posted October 20, 2023 Not you ignoring HIFN when it's her second best album after Pop 2. Anyway, no, In the city is just a fun basic track that she probably released just to get a quick hit seeing Speed Drive's success, she has always been going back and forth with basic mainstream releases (remember 1999 and Blame it on your love being released after Pop 2 and between the rest Charli, both experimental albums). So no, I'm sure her next album will be great. Oh and Crash is a great album, just because it's not noisy and weird it doesn't mean it's not well done. All the mainstream girls wish they could have an album as good as Crash.

Polgg48 Posted October 20, 2023 Posted October 20, 2023 time for her to reach arca or some dj to spark new ideas and start from there... it's bound to happen with charli but her former projects sound are already dated and commercial peaked success on sell out music too. let her decide her own life ig.
flower moon Posted October 20, 2023 Posted October 20, 2023 (edited) not really. crash was a low for me but she played some new (i think) music live recently and it sounded great to me. not basic at all. and her personality seems the same as always tbh. just amplified by tiktok/social media more. anyway it's hifn > pop2 > vroom > charli > n1a > crash > etc Edited October 20, 2023 by flower moon
enchanted0 Posted October 20, 2023 Posted October 20, 2023 Her attempt to have mainstream appeal is embarrassing. It just makes her song generic and basic. Break The Rules, 1999, New Shapes, Beg For You… they remind me Taylor in Lover era, trying so hard to appeal the GP yet failed miserably

Sawk Posted October 20, 2023 Posted October 20, 2023 Self titled was defo a peak for her and HIFN was also really good, but I have to agree about Crash, it’s not bad by any means, but it’s too safe
@michael Posted October 20, 2023 Posted October 20, 2023 All pop artists reach a point where they no longer have their finger on the pulse of what is cool. Usually happens in their 30s. She’s 31 now so it’s just natural.
Yakult Posted October 20, 2023 Posted October 20, 2023 Not yet. Charli has mostly good songs, but it lacks cohesion as an album. You can feel the push/pull between her experimental ideas and label expectations. HIFN and Crash are much more focused records. In the City doesn’t worry me. Charli has always made cute, basic throwaway pop songs in between her albums.
