I don't think it's that complicated, I'm talking about nowadays, not what happened 30 years ago.
You know what is also well documented? Ticket sales of caution tour

And now it's 2023 in which she's selling arenas which is why you're scrambling xx

With her Christmas concerts Mariah has ALWAYS had arena dates, not her album tours :coffee2:

Interesting because she played stadiums for half of her shows between 96-98. She was even the first Western artist to play 5 Stadiums in China for her flop album, MIAM.

I don't know where in the conversation you think I'm talking about 1996 and not the last 5 years

You're talking in circles to avoid the fact that the article was referring to international touring for American acts and the 30 mil gross was associated with that discussion. You're continuing to be shady to mask the embarrassment of you misinterpreting your own source.

if your first sentence were accurate, Bryan Adams wouldn't have been detailed in the article. regarding the second part, if I am being shady by asking for a very simple receipt that one would expect you to have access to based on your first reply to me in this thread, so be it.

another LA show was added. the demand is there.

Now she is doing the Hollywood Bowl twice. <3

This 14 dates tour might indeed cross $20m in revenue. Among her concert tours, this 2023 tour will be her biggest since 2006's The Adventures of Mimi ($42,5 million).

@stevyy, in an attempt to figure out where the $40 million sum for the Charmbracelet World Tour originated, I came across this 9 year-old post of yours on UKmix that suggested that it grossed $65.6 million. in order for you to have bumped your estimation down by $25.6 million, you must have seen a reputable source to suggest that it grossed $40 million. I am wondering if you would please share it, then this can be put to rest.

Not the 25 million reduction !

He is clearly just guessing and has no idea how much it actually grossed.

App 2 dates on this tour are now sold out.

the fact that he stated that we only have scores for 4 shows (when we have scores for 28, but 24 are absent from Wikipedia) says it all.

I mean can you really use someone as a reference that guesses 65 million then re calibrates to 40 million.

It's werid that she's never been a touring force artist despite her "big sales" around the "world.":kitty:

Isn't Hollywood bowl sold out? 17k? That's impressive for a Christmas themed show.

if she knocks it out of the park she could make this an annual thing and it can become an annual tradition for a lot of families omg :jonny5: I'd personally travel to NY to celebrate the holidays and to see her tbh.

Mariah Carey sells. She is a legend. Whats the problem in this thread?

most artists in her age are a flop today and not remembered. Mariah has the biggest hits in her hand and some idiots think they can shame her for that. IMAGINE SHAMING SOMEONE FOR HAVING A CLASSIC :deadbanana:

a CLASSIC THAT WILL FOREVER BE REMEMBERED. EMBARRASSING.

Why the quotation marks. Her sales have been extremely HUGE. And she did have amazing touring statistics as well - globally even. Her "problem" is that her tours are very small. In the 1990s she did tours with 5 concerts. Even if all shows sold out the total revenue will be under $10 million... but such a "tour" would still be successful.

1993 - 6 shows - Music Box Tour

1996 - 7 shows - Daydream Tour

By 1996 she had performed 13 concerts, but sold over 60 million albums worldwide.

1998 - 11 shows - Butterfly Tour

Another thing she did was to not include her biggest markets in all of the tours at the same time. This Butterfly tour visited 4 countries: 4x Japan, 1x Taiwan, 5x Australia and 1 show in Hawaii (USA). It was her Asia Pacific tour. 30,415 people attended her show in Hawaii. In 1998 that translated to merely $1,7 million in box office revenue. Today such a concert would gross sth like $3,5-4 million.

So by 1998 she performed in 24 concerts, but had sold over 100 million albums worldwide.

2000 - 19 shows - Rainbow Tour (6 concerts in Europe)

2003 - 69 shows - Charmbracelet Tour

That tour was her biggest tour and the only one deserving of the title world tour, even though she did not visit Africa or South America or Australia. It flopped in America, it did well in Asia and some EU markets.

2006 - 40 shows - Adventures of Mimi Tour: This was focused on the US and was a success. It was her biggest tour by revenue to date.

2009 - 26 shows - Angels Advocate: a theatre tour.

2013 - 3 shows - Australian Tour

2014 - 20 shows - Elusive Chanteuse Show: Asia and Australia

2016 - 31 shows - Sweet Sweet Fantasy: Her first tour in Europe since 2003.

2017 - 22 shows - All The Hits Tour: America

2017 - 3 shows - Christmas to All EU

2018 - 12 shows - Live: a concert series in Asia

2018 - 11 shows - Christmas to All EU

2019 - 35 shows - Caution: USA + EU

2019 - 11 shows - Christmas to All USA

2022 - 4 shows - Merry Christmas to All

2023 - 16 shows - Christmas One and All: USA

(including residencies) shows performed per decade:

1990s: 24 concerts - over 120 million albums sales worldwide

2000s: 130 concerts - over 25 million albums sales worldwide

2010s: 249 concerts - less than 5 million albums sales worldwide

2020s: 28 concerts - less than 5 million albums sales worldwide

People say she cannot tour... but has amassed 431 concerts since 1993.

Also if her tours were not profitable... no promoter would book her. But she has toured like crazy since 2013.

Posted

There is no real connection here... but her last 2 albums: Caution and Me. I am Mariah have both sold over 100,000 traditional copies in the US. However, her 2023 US Xmas tour has an audience of shy under 200,000 people.

I find it kind of sad that she insists so much on promoting just her Christmas music, she has an interesting catalogue. I think she does a disservice to the legacy of her other 90s songs. Anyway, I guess it's about the money and she probably doesn't really care about my point 🤣

Hopefully she comes to The Netherlands next year.
