This number is absurdly high. I haven’t been following the forum very much recently but I’m confused by the lukewarm/disappointed response… this is almost 10 times the movie budget attained in one weekend. And bar huge Blockbuster films like Barbie and Marvel films, there’s not much challenging a $120 million weekend.

I think this is a little low, I’m seeing theatrical concert films typically gross about 3-4x the opening weekend numbers, so this might end up more in the 300M-400M range. Only 2x the opening weekend will mean this film has significantly less legs than average concert films for similar artists. Though, it’s hard to predict for certain of course.

It's not playing on weekdays, only weekends. And is only being played for 4 weekends. Which will limit its legs.

Taylor finally broke her box office bomb curse and scored a record for the genre. I’m surprised with some of the takes here. Michael died and he didn’t cross the 100 million mark lol This is a major W for Tay

This is almost double the previous record holder, but ye, it was overhyped too much and now it's not as shocking. I hate wild predictions

Projections were setting her up a bit but looking objectively these are excellent numbers

it's a tour documentary what do yall expect? another barbenheimer?

To add further insult to injury, MJ's and Bieber's movies cost $10, while Swift's cost TWICE as much.

In regular ticket prices, this movie opened with $50 million. It's on par with the opening of Straight Outta Compton and Clash of the Titans lol.

MJ's movie did over $260 million outside of the US, so Taylor's movie still has a lot to go because $30 million from 100 markets is whether you like it or not an underperformance.

The previous record-holder isn't adjusted for inflation and its tickets were at regular price too. MJ's movie clearly had waaaaay more interest. $74 million in 2009 is like $140 million now.

Disappointing when it’s out grossed every tour film ever in just its opening weekend 💀

Then Taylor's movie only grossed $12M less than MJ's movie that came out 3/4 months after his death? And it's supposed to be bad for Taylor??  :bibliahh:

Because of stuff like that. If you're comparing it with blockbusters like NWH or Barbie, a +100M OW seems "reasonable".

Not her fault tho.

But then when you take into account that the tickets that generated MJ's $140 million opening cost $10 the gap becomes even bigger. That's 14 million people who bought a ticket to see MJ's movie, while 6.5 million bought Taylor tickets.

14 million vs. 6.5 million. So MJ's movie is muuuuuuch bigger.

Barely anyone releases tour films for theater and that statement isn't accurate, it haven't even outgrossed Bieber who did 142M total in 2023 dollars.

Anyways, she's doing great

Yes, cause his ticket is cheaper so more people will buy it?:deadbanana4: It’s crazy cause you literally say Taylor gross more because she has higher ticket price, and then you completely forget this factor when talking about amount of audience?

She's doing great but some Swifties just don't comprehend that it's NOT the biggest movie and internationally it (as well as Taylor overall) doesn't create the same buzz and hype as in the US.

I paid less than $14 for a ticket in my country. Not every country had a ticket costing $20 like in the US. Also the average ticket price in 2009 was more like $7.5 not $10 like now. If your gonna adjusted gross for inflantion you also need to adjust down.

Well, where was THAT narrative when claiming she would do Barbie numbers lol? Now that it didn't, ya'll go and talk about ticket prices.

What you're actually saying is that if Bieber charged $20 for his movie it would've been in the same ballpark as Taylor's. No one is criticizing her because this movie is a success regardless, but it's the way the Swifties always overrate her success and demand that's backfired a bit here.

Yeah, it can't be apples to apples but regardless MJ's movie was bigger.

But that $30 million international opening which is like $17 million at regular price from 100 countries is what's negative in her overall opening. I mean, a movie that breaks pre-sale records that does $17 million outside of its domestic market is usually deemed local.

Yes, so a random people on twitter say it’s going to outgross Barbie and that’s make you mad. And now you claim that people is a “Swiftie”. I totally understand your madness cause she literally did $130 million globally after just one weekend with less than $20 million budget, keep fuming :clap3:
