correct - nobody was denying that there are a ton of people that are in the industry because they're coerced/forced into it. the people that buy that service when they KNOW about that situation are absolute scum. NOT because they're buying sex, but because they're buying a stolen body. you're conflating two different situations that aren't the same imo

We’ve had years of privilege discourse and yet when it comes to the sex trade everyone insists we listen to the most privileged voices as opposed to the marginalized. As long as human sexuality is a commodity we are all impacted because sex with us could be viewed as a commodity, and the market for sex does include trafficked people.

it's not sad - some people just have a different relationship with sex than you do...

Do you charge your friends to talk to you?

ok but that wasn't your original question. your question was only about the buyers without any attempt at a nuanced conversation involving the knowledge the buyer has of the industry they're purchasing into and whether or not the poon they're getting served is "ethically sourced". you didnt leave any room for that in your original post, you just posted a blanket statement and getting huffy when people are disagreeing

I know you’re slightly sarcastic but viewing the human experience as just a commodity to profit from feels about as late stage capitalist as you can get

It’s so sad to me that we are at this point. But people will twist my words and act like I’m a sexual Puritan because I am against the commodification of every aspect of human life.

Why are we bringing up sex trafficking? That’s a completely different scenario because no I don’t agree with people being forced to sell their bodies for sex. We’re talking about sex workers who are willingly offering services and their clientele. It’s not the same thing at all.

The answer to privilege discourse has never been to abolish institutions but to improve/reform them. Imagine mansplaining sex work to somebody who has partaken in sex work. Enough. :biblionana:

No it’s really not immoral. It’s more immoral the constantly reinforced Victorian stigma around sex in the US and the severely lacking sexual education and sexual health resources. That’s what’s really immoral.

Also no protections for sex workers making it significantly easier to exploit the most vulnerable populations and the continued existence of sex trafficking, to top of the immorality party.

so is it late-stage capitalism to sell joy by creating theatre and art? is it late-stage capitalism to sell emotions in music and film? is it late-stage capitalism to sell services as a photographer for a wedding? is that not commodifying the human experience?

so, that commodification is acceptable, then? but commodifying sex isn't because...sometimes it's exploitative? I'm not really following your viewpoint on this. maybe because of the logical inconsistencies in whatever argument you think you're making

Yeah it’s very weird, either you believe you in pure hedonism regardless of the consequences or you’re a 1640’s preacher, hard to take that kind of position seriously and not just a knee jerk reaction to ever being told no

No, commodification of art is wrong, and we should move beyond it and end class society. You don’t understand why arguments whatsoever.
