It’s really silly of you to pretend that this isn’t a completely lopsided power dynamic and that hamas has the power to do this.  
 

I would say that Israel should respond by only targeting hamas and not holding the people of Gaza hostage and threatening them with constant bombings and now starvation.

Again. What do you expect to happen when Hamas did the same thing to them. I'm not justifying Israel's actions. I would rather they enter the Gaza strip and eradicated Hamas without civilian casualties and hopefully leave Gaza without anymore interference.
