Did Doja's 'i hate my fans' + Attention ruin her momentum?

Yeah PTTR is a megasmash but that's about it... other promo singles floundering, album floundering as well. Sure she's a slow burn type of artist but even then Planet Her had like 2.5 hits already by the time it was about to release.

Up until her i hate my fans rant, people were still perched for bald Doja era #4. Until they weren't...

Do you agree or is she still on track?

What you on?

Yes tbh. But we already know that this is her Rated R era. PTTR is her "Rude Boy" moment. DC5 will be her LOUD!

no it's because of her haircut going bald

not really. I mean she’s incredibly successful but she’s not a big enough celebrity for people to care about her that way

literally no one cared :rip:

you know it didn’t so please stop revisiting my trauma

Totally. She could be bigger this era. This era feels like is just there.
Im not supportin anything from this era. :giraffe:
If she goes pop for the next one and is less messy i will. I think her loud could arrive

it did tho??? like kiss me more - u right - ntk - woman were back to back insane hits! to this? where pttr is just the only thing standing and she's had what? 4 singles?

Yeah I don't think her lashing out at her fans helped her case and Attention wasn't the right lead. Also a lot of the GP seemed to be weirded out by her recent music videos like Demons and PTTR

Her twitter ranting in general killed all the goodwill for her i I think, I strongly think that although I don’t like the album, it would have fared well with a less bumpy rollout.

this just isn’t true, doja cat has been a main part of the cultural zeitgeist since planet her, she sold a whole arena tour before any music from this era dropped, I think she’s definitely harmed her stature but saying she never really had one is pretty out of touch

The off putting behavior + the album doesn't have as many bops like PH

You are giving Stan Twitter too much credit. People are not interested in her narrative. She is nothing more than just a faceless tiktok sound

Attention did

The i hate my fans thing just helped her

She didn't get the memo that it's 2023 and desperate attention seeking stunts don't sell records anymore:gaycat2:

Nobody wants these dark and serious eras from female rappers, look at Traumazine. Doja proves she can rap on poppier tracks, no need to do this. Specially if the lyrical content is as weak as in Scarlet.

U Right was definitely more of a moderate hit tbh. And all of those songs except KMM were not instant smashes. They grew over time with the help of a lot of airplay, whereas only one Scarlett song has been sent to radio so far. We'll see how Agora Hills does.

Thought we moved on from this after PTTR smashing.

Anyway, it definitely didn't help, but it's not easy to distinguish whether those silly antics would have still impacted her if the music was boppier and catchier.

Like, she could be at the peak of her likeability and songs like Demons and Attention would still not smash.

That applies for artists whose fanbase are actual people with jobs and hobbies outside of the internet e.g. Drake, Taylor Swift supporters.

Doja Cat built her whole career off of the Internet and the chronically online. Her quirkiness with Moo! was literally what got her start.

It’s not about hating on her fans.

Doja is a single artist who doesn’t debut with massive numbers, KMM is the only exception but it was her first lead single since Say So and it’s a feat with SZA + it’s pop.
like I already said, there’s a reason why PTT despite debuting with decent numbers after attention smashed because the song is simply good. Demons didn’t live the hype and the fact people use the instrumental on TT says a lot.
I see AH rising since I have yet to see a bad reviews about it

Its stupid but the album cover is simply not good, so there was nothing to talk about it.

Probably?
But don't forget, PH was much more POP

while she is doing much more hip-hop with "scarier" visuals, for this era

and the streams are still almost on par with PH

so this current hate feels like it's coming just from fans who didn't like the album :toofunny3:

Yeah I just checked the Spotify debut numbers. :gaycat6:

Didn't Planet Her do like 28M though? And that was a better era with poppier songs and visuals. She also had more hype leading up to the album.

I'm just confused why people were expecting like +40M this time when this was expected. Still haven't listened to Scarlet in full and I like all the pre-release songs, but Doja is just not an albums artist and this era was definitely saved by TikTok jumping on PTTR. She also doesn't have a big fanbase and isn't really that big globally. I feel like she's mainly a singles artist and Gen Z celeb.

You are right and right. Her fans, the people, are not interested in whatever narrative she is selling. They liked her with Moo! because it was quirky and it sounds fun doing videos with it. The same thing is happening with PTTR with dance challenges. People don't even talk about the lyrics, they just like doja's sounds for their videos.

Her song instrumentals go more viral, that is an indication that they like her producers more than her lol
