OP: No, but I like how you put the nowadays in the end of that question. It's very interesting to see how music stars of the past (Aretha Franklin, Patsy Cline, Janis Joplin, Billie Holiday, Joni Mitchell etc.) were quite ordinary-looking, but that didn't serve as a filter against them succeeding in the music industry. In fact, it seems that in the past a famous singer being exceptionally beautiful was quite an anomaly rather than the norm (Donna Summer and Cher are the only ones that come to mind immediately). You can chalk it up to music being predominantly transmitted through radio, a non-visual form.

Yes the average looking person or unattractive person can succeed in music. I think those who are considered conventionally more attractive may have an advantage but many dont last very long despite looks.

Yeah. it's about star quality, not attractiveness. 

 

And in some way for example, 'Madison Beer' is so pretty that people use her more as cute instagram it girl, kardashian type of vibe, than artist. 

Tate Mcrae on the other hand is cute ofc but she's not famous for being pretty, look at 'Greedy' being top 20 on Global Spotify. 

 

It's all about the material + star quality + marketing strategy 

Being hot is LESS important now than it was in the 00s.

She is not unattractive but average looking.

Attractiveness can’t be boiled down to just physical traits + there isn’t 1 universal standard for what = hot. I don’t wanna **** Post, Justin Bieber or Morgan Wallen but I know lots of ppl who do. I even know girls who find Ed Sheeran & Lewis Capaldi hot/cute. Name a female celeb & there will be gbs & hours of celebrity cum tribute content online. No pun intended, it’s X factor. Flaws make ppl unique, that’s the meat of what makes you different. Perfection is overrated & boring. You don’t have to look like an Armani model to succeed in music, if anything, I think it undermines how seriously ppl will take you. You can be flavour of the month off the steam of some smutty pics but (it’s cliched bc it’s true) the inside counts way more
