Years ago Katy’s producer/label mentioned that 1989 is a mid version of PRISM. Do you guys agree?

1989 was able to happen because of PRISM and Teenage Dream. It set the tone for Taylor to even want to do pop music to begin with.

No one who's heard it thought that :skull: How entitled.

If anything it's more like Pure Heroine

I feel it was definitely inspired but both can coexist and both are great albums.

Edit: lmao for some reason I thought this said TD. no. The answer is no.

The whole album isn't like Pure Heroine, but there are clear influences there. Would Taylor and Max Martin have used such a minimalist production on Blank Space if Pure Heroine didn't exist?

There's also a lot of HAIM, because Days Are Gone was a very influential album. Jack Antonoff has often been credited with reviving the 1980s gated reverb drum sound in the mid/later 2010s, but go listen to Days Are Gone, a lot of which was produced by Ariel Rechtshaid back in 2013.

:ahh: The delusion, I can't-

As if Taylor doesn't have a bunch of pop hits way before that.

Now I know Taylor didn’t drop one of the best songs of her career aka I Know Places to get called PRISM lite.

Which song from fun?

Also, I don't see Jack listed as a producer on Some Nights, wasn't that mostly produced by Jeff Bhasker?

You can also hear that gated reverb sound on the song "Everything Is Embarrassing" from Sky Ferreira, produced by Ariel Rechtshaid, and Dev Hynes.

https://www.gq.com/story/the-best-songs-of-the-decade

Quote

“Everything Is Embarrassing” remains totally irresistible. Its slinking, snappy melody and gated-reverb drums gave it the feel of a forgotten ‘80s jam. And the masterminds who helped Sky Ferreira achieve such perfection, Dev Hynes and Ariel Rechtshaid, went on to dictate the sound of the decade’s best left-of-center pop.

The initial release was mid 2012, but that was based on an earlier rough demo from Dev Hynes - you can find it online if you search for it.

In fact you might find gated reverb in some of Dev Hynes/Blood Orange earlier work, much of which was also produced by Ariel Rechtshaid, so for the time being, I'm going to give the credit to Ariel Rechtshaid and Dev Hynes.

If you’re gonna make **** up at least try and make it believable :rip:

Next you’re gonna tell me that without Teenage Dream, the pop tracks on Red wouldn’t exist :rip:
