this is good but its also whatever? i feel like its t's weakest project, even behind joyride tbh

I'm so worried for this now

This really has me having PTSD as well from Joyride. She wanted to release a double album (Nightride/Joyride) and it took FOREVER and it wasn’t even the complimentary dual album she wanted to release. Now we’re back to being signed and it seems messy with short songs and short tracks for streaming. Still perched for new music though.

So far, I don't think people are hating the songs/the music itself. They are having issues with the album release method, the song length (too short) and such. The album is still very good IMO.

I get that it's annoying for us fans that this is just 7 tracks but they are sooo consistent and cohesive that I totally understand why a full project would have thrown some of these songs in the shadows undeservingly.

I really love how it's mostly calm in her vocal delivery but the beats are diverse and fresh and she ditched the trappy sound from previous albums.

Even with Needs being the Link Up or X of the album, it still feels connected to the flow of the project.

Also: I don't recall Nightride/Joyride being a dual album plan from the beginning. Tinashe wanted to release her sophomore album, titled Joyride, with the main sound of what we now know as Nightride. But her label got in the way and kept delaying it, so Nightride (with a mixtape treatment) was her way of dropping those songs while she was reworking Joyride. Then she released Joyride as desired by her label (keeping some songs from the original album, like No Contest).

The only complaint I have is that I loved the whole thing but this deserved to be a full project, even though there’s a second part.

Uh Huh clicked for me immediately. I loved it.

Haven’t listened to this since I’m in the US but the Needs slander is telling me I can’t trust anyone’s opinion in here.. an amazing bop and one of my favorite songs this year

I’ve been a fan for a long time. I remember some of her interviews her saying nightride is the moody darker album and joyride was going to be the complimentary poppy brighter fun album to nightride, but then label politics got in the way and it was constantly delayed and the vision was lost I guess.

Tightrope studio version :clap3:

It's such a wordy song that she barely gets to catch her breath live, but they can work that out.

A 20 minute album that’s even shorter than a mixtape (amethyst) :rip:

Is that belting part she did in the live version in the studio version?

Your memory is failing you though. Because nightride only came to be after a long time of delays for Joyride. When nightride became a thing, she started marketing it as a moody counterpart to Joyride even though the albums were not made as a dual project. Nightride is a result of tinashe begging the label to release music, and they let her, but paid the project dust and had her fund a lot of things if I’m not mistaken since its not really what they wanted.

I could be wrong, by yeah I remember nightride was initially what she wanted joyride to be right? Then when nightride came out fans kept asking her about Joyride and she would say it’s the happier and more pop album compared to nightride. I guess I just thought she meant they were complimentary ablums because of the “ride” in both titles and how she described them as opposites after nightrides drop 😂

Yeah, this. It was only after she released Nightride that she started talking about them being complimentary albums.

But when she dropped the teaser for Joyride in 2015 she used Party Favors for it. It's obvious how things came to be.

Here is my ranking and let me say this has been hard because there is no bad song and this will be on repeat. And I am sure it will constantly change.

Gravity

Uh Huh

TTMN

Tightrops

Needs

Treason

None of My Business

They are on the same level for me. Uh Huh surprised me the most, I hope a part 2 will be a continuation of these sounds because she really did that. And I want to make it a full album.
