Music critic: "Taylor massively overhyped. Critics afraid of backlash from Swifities"

Finally someone said it.

We are all equal to love and dislike different genres and artists, but with Taylor (and BTS), it's different imo. It's either like them or whoever criticizes or even threads negativity in any shape or form is attacked by their fanbase.

It's just music, enough is enough!

While I embrace outward perspectives of any given topic… There’s something about this article that reeks of contrarianism.

Calm down, Kara. Taylor ain’t the Anti-Christ. :doc:

They aren’t wrong. Midnights was a terrible album riding off of hype. She’s overexposed atm

I am with you but I don't fully agreed with the original topic, she's built her career to the status right now so I don't think she's overhyped, and yes us Swifities could be threatening, and since all these media are falling, they need to praise her or at least be more friendly to her and her nation to avoid the backfire, other wise they couldn't survive.

Taylor Swift is a brand now, a big machine (how ironic), she has the impact to the media and the industry, rating her is no longer just about music, it's about the whole ecosystem, so critics are getting more cautious right now.

Literally EVERY fanbase is doing it, stop the hypocrisy already. You're only saying this because you hate Taylor and therefore, you hate her fanbase :toofunny3:

Keep you imagine if the same article was written about Gaga and people started to pile on? Yeah it would've been closed immediately.

If you read the New York Times this week, you will have seen a dance critic call Taylor’s moves ‘simple and unoriginal’, ‘stiff and awkward’, ‘imprecise and physically uncommitted’, yet still reach the conclusion that this parade of gawkiness is ‘powerful’, and ‘exceptionally effective’.

(...)

Some of the most honest lines anyone has ever typed and released.

That wasn't the point of the article. The point - in parts - was about the fans who threaten other people.

i believe she is overhyped in the sense where she does not bring anything new to the table as an artist

you can say that and have dozens of swifties flooding your mentions with pictures of her streams stats and packed stadiums lmao but they can't prove that she's bringing something else artistically. she's just there, releasing cute, polished and conforming pop songs, and honestly it's good for her! but the difference between her hype and her artistic contribution is the reason there's a growing sentiment of her being overhyped

what i admire about her is her strong and excellent PR machine. i've studied PR and we even talked about her. especially all of the articles about her and the tour recently stroke me as good PR moves lol

just look at what good PR is doing for her: her fans are provoking seismic activities and it's reported as "record breaking" and overall in a good light. two weeks later, travis scott's fans causes the same seismic activities at his show, and the medias are painting it as terrible, dangerous and overall bad. the comparison of the two cases shows the obvious difference in their PR machine, travis' PR being disatrous :skull:

in the end, i think her PR combined with her being oversaturated is a dangerous game to play and she might end up like BTS where even in korea, their PR campaign exhausted the general public. the only difference is that taylor's fanbase might still be bigger because she panders to white america. but i believe the business and public relations aspect of her career should be applauded :clap3:

I still remember all of ATRL calling it terrible when it leaked only to switch when the numbers came out

They switched when they were listening to a lossless or high quality stream rather than a cheap 128kbps leak that sounded like it was extruded through a dirty dish towel. There are still plenty of users who are very loud about how much they don’t like it, going on a whole year later.

Taylor is the Apple of pop music. Her fans are convinced anything she does is good because she’s Taylor Swift and will buy anything she releases.

Taylor convincing her fans that buying these re-releases is empowering to her is the same as Apple convincing the world that buying the same phone every year with minimal updates or changes is worth it and exciting.

People were listening to a leak that was the recording of the music playing from speakers :deadbanana2:

The album is great

We should all as a community forget about that artist, and let those crazy fans alone with her idol. They're annoying and dangerous.

I like Taylor but she made some points. She's pushing 40 and still serves lyrics like "It's me, hi,I'm the problem" and "Karma is a cat purring in my lap" like:rip: Madonna in her 40s was giving Ray Of Light and COADF.

You should really look at the Taylor Swift thread sometime.  Her fans are fiercely critical of the songs they do not like.

She's barely 33, what do you mean "pushing 40"?? :bibliahh:

Also, it's pathetic how you're taking some isolated lyrics instead of taking the WHOLE context of the song, especially Anti-Hero. Anti-Hero is objectively a well written pop song, you taking it out of context won't change that.

Also, as much as i love Madonna, Folkmore is way more artistic than COADF and that's just a fact. COADF has lyrics like "other places make me feel like a dork" or "just go to Texas, isn't that where they golf?" :rip:

It's SO obvious that OTHs never actually take the time to read anything Swifties say in the base or anywhere else, they just blindly hate Taylor and make up stories about her stans as a result. Swifties are EXTREMELY critical of Taylor, often with small things that don't even matter.

This idea that we just blindly love everything she does is so removed from reality, it's hilarious :bibliahh:

Taylor is extremely focused on her career as a musician, you don’t see her doing clothing, perfumes, movies etc. Almost everything she does is around her music.

She is not the best singer, not the best dancer, not the best performer, not the best artist - but she is really focused and deserves to be successful.
