I do agree to an extent that critics tend to overhype Taylor albums, I don’t think all her rerecordings for example deserve such high scores (especially Fearless and Speak Now, I think Red TV’s score was justified)

I also think Midnights’ critical acclaim was not necessary, it’s a fine album but not an 80+ metascore album.

Taylor is not overhyped when it comes to her cultural influence because that’s just there and the GP chose her as their favourite artist, there is nothing we can do about that. I sometimes do wonder why Taylor is the one dominating the female part of the music industry and not a more daring, controversial artist but that’s my personal preference.

Look, i genuinely respect your opinion but i just don't get why female artists HAVE to be controversial in order to be "valid" as the world's biggest popstars. It's a very limited way of viewing things, especially when everything has been done already in terms of being "controversial".

Take Dua Lipa: we both love her, she's my second fave after Taylor (when it comes to current big pop stars, i'm not counting Madonna) yet she isn't "daring" or "controversial" in any way. And that's fine. That doesn't mean she doesn't deserve her success and i'm sure you wouldn't have a problem if SHE was the world's biggest female popstar.

I’ll reword it: artists who treat their albums like moving art pieces like Gaga or Madonna. Who create entire productions of their tours, who release a tour film for every tour, who have music videos with long stories and a lot of costumes. Who pay attention to their visuals.

But again, that’s my PERSONAL preference. I’m not saying female artists have to be like in order to be succesful, but I’d like to see more artists like this on top. I want a music video revival. I want someone to save pop like Gaga again

...Or that's a result of Taylor being one of the only exciting thing in pop culture right now? I mean literally half of this week's top threads are directly about her :rip: No wonder OTHs are bitter

Not her viciously attacking Taylor and her fans and THEN play the victim on Twitter :bibliahh:

she’s literally just further proving the point of her article as any good writer would do :foxaylove3:

Intentions for what? I don’t get why you’re upset over tweets, which is more aimed at Swifties behaviour than Taylor.

Why are you acting as if this behavior is unique to Swifties? Literally EVERY fanbase of big pop girls do this sh*t once their faves get slightly criticized :toofunny3:

This kind of just proves that Taylor is just the center of conversation these days.

Gaga did save pop in 2008-2011. Pop was very stale, she was very exciting to watch

I'm not bitter about it or anything, but considering I've seen actual instances of what she has said, I can see why many critics are hesitant to share even slightly negative opinions about Tay

You're right but I'm mainly talking abt the fans rushing in to deny what she is saying?

Oh sure, a TERF who think Taylor isn't good because she's never been in rehab is definitively a "good" writer :toofunny3:

Let me teach you something: just because someone is saying something negative about a popgirl you don't like doesn't mean that you have to blindly defend them.

Which is probably the reason why someone like Gaga was considered "groundbreaking" in any way :rip:

Gaga was already called the new coming of Madonna barely months into her career, now THAT is being overhyped.

Is it negative or just the truth? She made more points than those writers that were comparing Taylor to MJ and Madonna. At the very least it’s just as ridiculous but you all took those articles as gospel

But then wouldn’t the fact that there are entire groups of people (and daily threads) saying how she has no talent, made bad music etc, say that she is underrated?  This thread kind of is paradoxical if you think of it.

It all just feels like people struggling with their cognitive dissonance of other people having different perspectives than their own.  It would be a lot healthier if everyone did not care about the fact that other people like something and just focused on what makes them happy.

No she didn't. She shared a pressed opinion about an artist she doesn't like. The writers who compared Taylor to MJ and Madonna were talking about her popularity and her current dominance in the industry. They shared facts. Taylor is factually shaping up to be the biggest solo artist since MJ and Madonna when you look at any objective metrics. Knowing you, I can see why you would like the pressed opinion over the facts, tho :michael:

Oh be careful. We all know a certain fanbase gets very sensitive about facts.  You might get a WP for even suggesting that.

And this is what OTHs on this site just CANNOT wrap their heads around. The comparisons were NEVER about "dance moves", it's OTHs who came up with that out of nowhere just to invalidate her :toofunny3:
