New label, new branch of Mathematics? Trigonometry it is! Sine, cosine, tangent are coming.

You're not far. The next series of albums will be called Play, Pause, Forward, Rewind and Stop (not sure in which order, but probably Play first)

Didn't even know he had released an album this year :rip:

Even when he leaves from a record label, if the music is still a non-event, nothing's gonna happen.

I need him to release another "+" or "÷".

loved him in stranger things and his songs with paramore are still classics

it may be titled “Autumn Variations.” he played 3 new songs in Minneapolis: 'Crashing in Head and Heels', 'Blue', 'Magical'(in an interview with Rolling Stone, Ed said Magical is on his second album with Aaron Dessner)

Possibly but unlikely.

Still don‘t get why Subtract flopped so bad.

this will most likely be the second album produced by Dessner.

Wait, not him going independent

Ed knew Subtract would flop and he didn’t care. I think it’s more of a contract filler album.  I don’t doubt his ability to score big hits, look what happened after Afterglow.

Also a big LOL at GP not caring about him. He still managed to cross $400m with Mathematics Tour, that shows his demand.

Instrumental is really nice.

Indie is a tough slog and while I commend him for trying this route, as he clearly has a substantial enough audience to reap the $$$ benefits, I see him back at a label in due course.

He could be totally tapped out of the commercial rat race and is also probably inspired by the largely indie success of UK chart dominators like Dave and Central Cee. But as a non-fan watching from the outside in, Ed seems hella competitive, hella sales driven, and hella knowledgeable about the market.

As a stadium act with enough hits to stay on the road til he's old and grey, he'll always have a decent enough audience to have a respectable commercial presence.

But to ever again achieve anywhere close to what he's used to (which we know is his goal), there's a certain machine needed (for playlisting, radio, etc). That machine being a major label. So, I can definitely see the allure of a major being there for him when his next project/s inevitably do "just ok".

Perhaps, he'll nab one of those distribution-only deals as a good middle ground (e.g. Like Beyonce's Parkwood/Columbia setup). Cook everything in-house and let the label simply distribute it.

Subtract was a really brilliant album, but yes it is very heavy and depressing. There are good melodical songs though like End of Youth, Curtains or Life Goes On so it just somehow didn't get recognized by GP.

Looking forward to a new album though.
