London stays unbothered. Central London is so fun, safe, incredible best-of-the-world culture options, gorgeous, walkable but also the best metro system in the western world, just a slay all around as long as you can afford it otherwise it's hell

I'm one of the last people to defend France/Paris but....read the room. The lack of self awareness from these American tourists I see on TikTok is something else.

I think American cities can be great if you're going for a particular experience that only exists there, like Las Vegas or Seattle for the pop culture museum, or NYC for Broadway and to be surrounded by all these skyscrapers. But if you're going to find history and culture and architecture then literally any random European city of 200k people has more of that and for a lot cheaper.

the only thing that is different when you walk in marseille is that there's more black and brown people speaking their own languages i guess that's why that user says it's more dangerous than paris

The trains in London were awful both times I was there. I'll never forget when they kicked everybody off our train because it needed to be used on another route... and then came an announcement saying they "lost" our replacement and "didn't know where when it would get there." Another time, our train pulling out of Stansted back to the city was over an hour late. And the metro, on the whole, is just very uncomfortable. I agree it's pretty walkable, though, and the shopping is good.

 

Honestly, out of the "Big Four" cities I've been to, London is by far my least favorite. I'd rank them as follows: Paris >>>>> New York > London. We'll see where Tokyo ranks once I finally make it there.

Was a nerve hit?  I've been to both cities and Paris is better by FAR. That's not even an unpopular opinion. Marseille is dirty, ridden with poverty, unemployment and corruption and has the WORST public transportation in France. Yes, Paris has its flaws too but Marseille is just smth else. Only decent thing about it is the beach

This applies to basically all the biggest metropolises in the world, all the big cities have their ugly areas where majority of people live and the beautiful parts are only in certain zones that obviously are expensive along with the food.

 

Like somebody else pointed out it seems to me somebody that is on a budget that went on Paris without even inform himself to what visit, where are the museums, shops, Monmartre, Mouline Rouge area with sexy shops, Versailles, Eurodisney? Eiffer Tower is not the only important monument to visit, there are tones like Notre Dame, Arch de Triumphe.. Like those are the basic when you go there.

You never been to Venice, that is the definition of unique energy in the whole world, no other city is like that one.

i don't even live in france anymore but something i've noticed about white people there is that they're always scared of marseille and hate it for some reasons... i recently came to the conclusion that it was because marseille has more north africans and black people than anywhere else in france and sadly more poverty as well (since both are connected because of you know, discrimination, racism and the government doing absolutely nothing to help these people) and looks like i was right

I just know some white hands are typing this from a basement somewhere in Toronto  I personally don't like Marseille because the streets are dirty, it's poorly managed, public transportation is **** and there's not much to visit besides the old port (my apt also got broken into and robbed there twice but that's another story). On the other hand I enjoyed most of my Paris trips because I find it more interesting, I've had more positive experiences and there's a lot more diversity in touristic destinations. It's literally not that serious, but I'll let you have fun with your little narrative you're trying to paint.

anyway at least you lived/live in marseille so i might give you a pass but those things happen literally everywhere, i lived in marseille all my life and never had any problem yet i nearly got robbed in the street in the MIDDLE of paris when i was 17 with a knife

 

those things don't only happen in marseille, it's just that paris has better PR but it's true that most of the criticism about this city is deeply rooted in racism and classism. there's reasons why some parts of the city are the way they are and i invite you to reflect about those reasons before using the fact that it's ridden with poverty as a drag

You just had the worst luck I guess London's metro is so efficient that you would hardly need to wait for the trains to come (for central routes of course)

But he's right about the cleanliness part. I think it's quite common knowledge in Europe that Paris is not very clean. Also pickpockets  and people in Paris are quite snobs. 

France as a whole is very beautiful though

Have you guys never heard of Paris Syndrome? It's fascinating - look it up. People actually have physical reactions to their expectations of Paris not matching up.

Paris is beautiful. I went there on winter and still fascinated by the Eiffel tower and the street culture.

 

The 2 things that I don’t like are the scammers targeting tourists ( I’ve been scammed twice) and the old metro without ramps and elevators.
