Did Taylor just redefine what "imperial phase" means?

her cute records that lost meaning over time

If there's anything that keeps growing over time are her records and her music. Your denial is so funny :bibliahh:

Not really. As a whole those are the top selling artists of the 20th century per chart masters. It actually showcases how men used to be more dominant forces in music and how Madonna helped to establish women in music and pop culture.

:rip: I am not a Taylor fan but it’s funny and odd to see people in such aggressive rejection. There’s always people that do this and are unable to use context clues about an artist’s legacy.

Aretha, Mariah, Madonna, Diana. Some of the most influential artists of the last century and responsible for shaping the sound of popular music.

madonna in the years 2000-2001, about the same length into her career taylor is:

Music - top 10 biggest album in 2000 & 2001

GHV2 - top 10 biggest album in 2001

Music - top 10 biggest songs of 2000

American Pie - top 20 biggest songs of 2000

Drowned World Tour - highest solo grossing tour of 2001, sold out all shows within hours of announcement

multiple copycats in britney, xtina, jlo, etc blatantly following the blueprint she set

please stop acting like taylor is the only girl to have had monumental success this far in her career :deadbanana: + madonna also had the confessions and hard candy eras which were huge and MDNA & RH tours were massive despite being flop albums

The fact that Madonna is the go to datapoint to compare really says something about how much do a legend Taylor is.

No? The user said the others moved way more albums during their peaks. I'm saying that's not a good point cause she in fact has moved more. Do you know how to read?

It’s a stupid comparison since it’s sales vs streaming. Not to mention Taylor is releasing non stop.

The only thing that sets her back is that she definitely has never moved the cultural needle, she really has never done something groundbreaking.

And that's fine. She's having a beatlemania type of success.

Some of the most influential people in music were not the best-selling.

Britney will forever be remembered for her selling 50M+ Units of her debut + sophomore but Taylor slaying 17 years in means absolutely nothing. If only she burned out as fast as Britney only then would she be remembered1!1!1!1!

Britney is cute for a nostalgia moment and defining much of what we see as Y2K pop star, but I really don't see her having much of a *music* legacy.

I don’t know if people really can understand how big Taylor is in 2023

This is by far her peak, she’s a lot bigger right now than she was in Fearless or 1989x

Even I said a few months ago that she lacked impact to be considered a legend, but her impact is out there with the Eras tour and the current chart domination in the charts.

Her new peak is definitely up there with the biggest ones in history like Britney’s, Madonna’s, The beatles, Gaga during TFM and 25 of Adele.

Midnights alone is obviously not bigger as the eras mentioned, but her power, celebrity and chart dominance is definitely on that level.

She is definitely a legend now at 33 and is probably going to be the biggest artist in history in the US ever within the next 10 year gap.

You spilled :clap3:

If only Taylor had only one big era and then became a walking tabloid fodder

She doesn't. Britney fans are just delusional. They think only provocative popstar are allowed to have a legacy because that's the whole Britney brand.

Mariah will be remembered too tbf, and she at least had consistent success plus a comeback. Meanwhile Britneyland holds her achievements from 30 years ago as important in 2023 :gaycat6:

Yeah. Image-wise, absolutely. But as far as music goes, there were people already doing everything she was.

It’s fine, sure! But it’s also a reason why she isn’t sold to everyone.

Mariah is definitely going to be forever remembered. Not only for Xmas but her legacy is huge.

I mean, yeah, Mariah is single-handedly responsible for shaping much of the sound of popular music today. Pop/Hip-hop meld, complex melisma in popular music, the remixes, the resurgence of mainstream holiday music, her unique songwriting etc, etc.

Britney was an image. No shade, but I think even her fans can admit that?

Britney redefined what it was to be a young pop starlet and her fame alone is a case study, that’s her legacy. There is a huge legacy there. You cannot deny that

For her personally. When people look back, she’ll stand out being amongst legends like Shania, Whitney, Mariah, Madonna, Adele and not in a good way.

why do y’all keep bringing up Britney? She’s literally the antithesis of Taylor. We all know why she stopped after 2004 so bringing her up and trying to bring her down with the “1999-2004” attack is moot

Exactly why it’s very jarring. She’s literally the McDonald’s of pop 🤷‍♀️

what would you say is her impact (cultural or not cultural) on the industry besides huge sales / streams?

Brandy, Monica & Aaliyah did everything Britney did before she debuted.
