BabyBenzz Posted June 9, 2023 Posted June 9, 2023 no and she never will, Flowers was a fluke as we can tell because the rest of the album is a massive bomb and failed to do any numbers.
Isaiah Posted June 9, 2023 Posted June 9, 2023 Katy's catalogue of hits that are still loved & remembered washes Miley's, but Miley is much more iconic as a figure and celebrity
Scars Posted June 9, 2023 Posted June 9, 2023 (edited) Yes. Katy was able to get herself more hits during her commercial prime, but Miley has more longevity as a figure in pop music. I mean, she literally watched Katy's career in music come and go. When Katy showed up to the scene singing "you're so gay" or whatever, Miley was already a household name with 3 #1 Billboard 200 entries and millions of albums sold under her belt. After both of them had a tough year in 2017, Miley came back with Plastic Hearts in 2020, which is bigger than anything Katy has released after 2014, and she has now the biggest hit of the year. We're all still waiting for Katy's comeback. Edited June 9, 2023 by Scars 1
halcyonday Posted June 9, 2023 Posted June 9, 2023 i feel like they're on the similar level now. both left a huge mark on pop culture and miley has flowers now but katy has so many more iconic songs and albums.
Blue Monday Posted June 9, 2023 Posted June 9, 2023 LOL am I really seeing people refer to Temporary Summer Staycation as Miley’s Emancipation of Mimi??? Flowers was a total fluke, nobody is checking for its parent album and the follow up singles have all bombed. Miley may have “lasted” longer than Katy but Katy’s peak is bigger with two hit albums and multiple hit singles from each. 4 1
Shimenawa Posted June 9, 2023 Posted June 9, 2023 (edited) Katy was huge but her career was short lived Miley outlasted her Edited June 9, 2023 by Shimenawa
Scars Posted June 9, 2023 Posted June 9, 2023 Billboard - Greatest of All Time Artists 61. Katy Perry 62. Miley Cyrus This was from 2018, btw. Current unofficial predictions already have Miley ahead of Katy, so the next official update will be interesting to see. 1
leyaris11 Posted June 9, 2023 Posted June 9, 2023 (edited) Not yet. Even Katy is a flopped now but "Teenage Dream" and "Prism" are solidified her as a mega popstar and Miley hasn't surpass it yet. It was Katy Perry's bomt and oidia's size albums. Miley does have her moments, may be in the future if she keeps bumping hits after hits. Edited June 9, 2023 by leyaris11

littlebodybigheart Posted June 9, 2023 Posted June 9, 2023 if we include hannah montana, then miley has always been ahead. if we’re talking about just miley’s music, then katy has it. teenage dream up until prism was just smash after smash. katy was huge.

wish Posted June 9, 2023 Posted June 9, 2023 We should always include Hannah Montana, since it was Miley in that wig on our TV screens, it was Miley on stage touring ARENAS extensively, it was Miley's face plastered on all of the merchandise, etc etc etc. Katy WILL NEVER have this. 2

Endless Summer Vacation was released barely three months ago and it's already on track to outsell Katy's last two albums (2,268,000), just like Plastic Hearts did. Plastic Hearts (2020) - 3,012,000 (3,721,269 daily streams) Witness Deluxe (2017) - 2,770,000 (273,662 daily streams) Smile (2020) - 2,495,000 (685,845 daily streams) Miley Cyrus / Hannah Montana was already a household name before Katy Perry released her debut album. She just scored the biggest hit of the year 17 years into her career and could possibly snag a Grammy in 2024. Take off the nostalgia goggles, please. 2
Cheers Posted June 9, 2023 Posted June 9, 2023 Yes. Katy's only memorable era is TD and it's thanks to nostalgia. Roar is only doing big numbers on YouTube because parents play it for their kids as distraction/background music

They're irrelevant in most ATRL discussions because this site's topics tend to be debating who has the bigger music career between 2 pop stars. In those debates, numbers just give us the objectively-correct answer, so iconic looks and serves don't matter. I might've misread the OPs intentions, but from my understanding this was an open-ended question since "surpassed Katy" can mean various things. In this case, no, her music career hasn't surpassed Katy's, but her celebrity status has.
UnusualBoy Posted June 9, 2023 Posted June 9, 2023 I don't know. She's sold more albums but Katy had more hits and her touring gross is bigger.
Iyanla, Fix Me Posted June 9, 2023 Posted June 9, 2023 I feel like Miley has her country + rock covers to lean on. She's highly respected in the music industry for her versatility even though she's never hit a commercial peak like Katy's. Legacy wise... it's really a toss-up because Miley has Hannah + hits while Katy a string of very iconic hits that will live on for generations. Relevance today? Miley Overall music career? Katy
naval23 Posted June 10, 2023 Posted June 10, 2023 Katy had a way bigger peak but Miley had more longevity post Younger Now era Teenage Dream is top 100 on the Billboard 200 and Miley doesn't have anything like that
