There’s definitely a trend with Black women artists trying to break out where the label will build a song up on Urban/Rhythmic for months first before sending it to Pop…which seems to be the sort of “proof” those formats require before they’ll spin them. Happened with Have Mercy, What It Is, and now OMM.

 

Tyla sort of avoided that because Water went viral and crossed over almost immediately.
