She's like the most average looking woman next door.

2003 Angelina Jolie, Margot Robbie and B'Day era Beyonce are drop dead gorgeous for example.

I don't know who is weirdest, the ones calling Halle ugly or the ones have to show she's gorgeous with a photo of her in red carpet with jewels, 15K dollars of dress and the best make up.

Like she have to be not even cute, not even beautiful but GORGEOUS at any cost. She's just a normal good looking girl, and that's enough if she has talent.

Most of the reviews and comments online are praising Melissa so just stop.

If the movie underperforms it will be because they changed the race of Ariel the lead character. Not because Melissa McCarthy, the biggest box office draw in the film, is playing the villain.

The delusion. :skull:

The biggest box office draw? Who’s being delusional?

The biggest box office draw in the film

Halle and Jonah are unknown to most people and haven’t opened any movies successfully by themselves, Javier has led very few successful movies outside of Spain and everyone else is completely irrelevant

So yes Melissa is clearly the biggest draw of the actors starring in this film as she has actually led successful movies, though of course the main draw for mosf people is the fact that it’s a live adaptation remake

Why is it an issue when Asian countries don't support some hollywood movies, when the rest of the world never ever supported any Asian-made movies? And we are the biggest racists here? You all are weird.

same old imperialist american tale. If they produce something of course have to be global but 99.5% of the culture they consume is local.

No, just someone with common sense, something you clearly seem to lack.

OT: This isn’t surprising but hopefully it does well enough in other countries to make up the difference.

“Some Hollywood movies”

Oh please, if the movie had a white lead it would be doing 10 times better and you know it :skull:

Like what I said, there are lots of great and highly-acclaimed Asian-made movies, and you Americans ignored ALL of it. And that's okay, we don't cry about it asking you all to kiss our ass. But when Asians countries don't want to watch another tired remake of a talking fish, you all be crying about it and suddenly we are the biggest racists here? Stop the BS. I bet most of you hypocrite gays haven't watched any Asian films in your entire lives just because these movies had Asian people playing in the entire movie.

I’m not American and have watched many Asian films.

The fact remains that this film would be doing way better if the lead was white, it is well known that anti-blackness and racism runs rampant in China and many Asian countries thus affecting the box office.

If you want to deny the obvious then that’s on you.

They really should've gone with Emmy Rossum for Belle's role

East Asians are literal racists, esp towards people with any hint of melanin. :coffee2:

Ironically most white people in America are racists towards Asians. :skull:

Do you really think the reason its bombing in China is because people are tired of Disney movies? Are you insane? :ahh:

One thing I’ll give to Halley is that she’s more cute and charismatic than Zendaya and that she can really sing, so there’s that.

I wasn’t on planning to watch the movie this weekend but my bf desperately wants to so I guess I’ll catch it this Saturday.

Now that the reviews are mostly positive and the film is looking to do solid numbers domestically, I see haters are desperately picking at any straw they can find to paint this film as a disaster.

Newsflash: No one predicted that this film would do well in China (due to a myriad of reasons) and no amount of posturing anyone does will make this film look like a failure. Next.
